People Are Freaking Out Over This Creepy House For Sale In Australia

Old houses can be naturally creepy. My own home definitely has a few creaks and corners that give me pause, but this latest house listing to go viral takes that natural creepiness and turns it up to 11.

The South Australia home dates back to 1856 and the agent's description is a pretty good tip-off that something strange is going on.

"'Mystic House'...Guarantee you will remember this property," says the listing.

Well, he's not wrong...

The photographer appears to have leaned into the slight creepiness right off the top, as all the exterior shots feel like they were taken just before the sort of storm that would force you to knock on the door of a house like this one.

Even though the sky is blue, the pics just feel ominous.

It doesn't help that the house has clearly been left empty for a while before the current owners decided to auction it off.

There are five bedrooms, a wrap-around veranda, a viewing platform on the roof, a pool, a games room, shed, and a double cellar. There's even an original butler's kitchen.

So why is a house with amazing history and tons of reno potential being auctioned off?

Toop & Toop

It's possible that the family was forced to sell it due to some financial issues, but it could also be that the house is freaking creepy.

"This has been in the same family since 1977. The family of six best describe the fun and good times as Mrs Bates in the Hitchcock movie. The house on the hill."

Yes... thank you, Mr. Realtor.

At first, the unsettling feeling is mostly due to the outdated styling and clear signs of disrepair.

This bedroom is a good example, since you can see where the original plaster and lath ceiling is beginning to fall apart.

But as you scroll through the pictures, you start to notice slightly more unsettling decor choices.

Like, what's up with the weird statue on the hallway pedestal? Or why is there a random portrait of Alice Copper on the wall?

My guess is that the house hasn't been properly occupied since the '90s.

The few bits of technology to be found are small CRT televisions and stacks of VHS tapes.

This room also features a "Crusty Demons" cushion. That freestyle motorcyclists group debuted in 1994, according to the internet.

So...um... remember when I said there was a games room and shed?

Catch your breath. I'll give you a moment.

Feeling better? Too bad.

BECAUSE THERE'S MORE.

You know what this makes me think?

I think that this was the scene of some mid-'90s horror at a Halloween party. Like, scary crap went down and no one ever had the courage to come back.

And if you thought the cellar was going to be any better, you're clearly delusional.

The realtor is really trying to call this a selling feature:

"History, excitement. Challenge your senses. If you are a scaredy cat, don’t come."

After all of that, the random soccer jersey on the wall seems really out of place.

Toop & Toop

"Watch the cob webs, and don’t wear a suit."

Since the auction is set to happen on site, potential (crazy) buyers have to brave the house themselves.

I'm not kidding; the agent literally says that in their summary.

Toop & Toop

"Agents Note: Brave people only, leave the kids at home or keep them supervised. Watch the steps."

I think I'll stay home with the kids, thanks.
