Scarlett Johansson Supports Woody Allen Amidst Abuse Allegations: 'I Would Work With Him Anytime'

Scarlett Johansson has a hard time keeping her name out of the news — and not necessarily in the way she would want it. While ramping up to do promo for the new standalone Black Widow that's expected out in May of 2020, Scarlett was asked about her frequent collaborations with director Woody Allen and if it conflicted with her vocal activism for the Time's Up movement.

Scarlett's gotten into trouble recently for comments made in interviews.

After controversy surrounding her casting in the films Ghost in the Shell in the part of an Asian character and Rub & Tug in the role of real-life trans male Dante "Tex" Gill, Scarlett gave an interview saying she felt "as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job."

Many felt those comments were purposefully ignorant of the prevalence of whitewashing rare roles for actors of color and trans actors.

Scarlett then released a statement saying the interview was "edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context."

In a new interview, Scarlett was asked about her work with Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual abuse..

“I love Woody,” Scarlett told The Hollywood Reporter. “I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it."

Scarlett continued her defense of the director.

"I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him," she concluded.

Some fans are not happy with these comments.

Others have pointed out that she almost can't help but generate controversial headlines no matter what she's being interviewed about.

What do you think about Scarlett's statements? Were they insensitive, or do people need to ease up on her?
