San Francisco's Board of Supervisors is sending a message to other communities and to the federal government after unanimously passing a resolution declaring the NRA a "domestic terrorist organization," KTVU reports.
The resolution goes on to say that the NRA "musters its considerable wealth and organizational strength to promote gun ownership and incite gun owners to acts of violence.
"All countries have violent and hateful people," it continues, "but only in America do we give them ready access to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines thanks, in large part, to the National Rifle Association's influence."
"The NRA has it coming to them," said the resolution's author, Catherine Stefani, "and I will do everything that I possibly can to call them out on what they are, which is a domestic terrorist organization.
"The NRA exists to spread dis-information, and knowingly puts guns into the hands of those who would harm and terrorize us."
Since then, Dayton, El Paso, and Odessa have all seen mass shootings.
"People are dying every day in this country, and doing nothing is not an option, and that is what the NRA continues to do," Stefani said.
City officials will have to assess the relationships of those who do business with the city have with the NRA.
The resolution says that "the City and County of San Francisco should take every reasonable step to limit those entities who do business with the City and County of San Francisco from doing business with this domestic terrorist organization."
"This ludicrous stunt by the Board of Supervisors is an effort to distract from the real problems facing San Francisco, such as rampant homelessness, drug abuse, and skyrockeing petty crime, to name a few," a statement read. "The NRA will continue working to protect the constitutional rights of all freedom-loving Americans."
