17-Month-Old Injured In West Texas Shooting Expected To Make Full Recovery

Twenty-two people were injured in a shooting spree in West Texas last weekend — one of them is 17-month-old Anderson Davis.

Despite a number of injuries, Anderson has been progressing well, and her parents have stated that she is expected to "make a full recovery."

Last Saturday, seven people were killed in Midland and Odessa, Texas.

The gunman began shooting at a traffic stop in Midland and continued as he drove into Odessa. He was eventually killed in a shootout with police in a movie theater parking lot in Odessa.

Seventeen-month-old Anderson suffered numerous injuries.

Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis stated on Monday that Anderson had to undergo surgery for shrapnel in her chest, a hole through her bottom lip, and damage to her front teeth.

Anderson's parents Kelby and Garret Davis are thankful that their daughter is even alive, let alone recovering.

"We hurt so badly for the families whose loved ones didn't survive this tragedy," reads their statement. "We are thankful for our beautiful baby girl and look forward to reuniting her at home with her twin brother soon."

In a press conference, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott explained that Anderson's recovery has been miraculous.

"Toddlers are funny because they can get shot but still want to run around and play," Anderson's mother allegedly wrote to the governor.

The surgery to repair damage to Anderson's mouth was extensive.

Davis told the governor that the surgery would ensure that doctors were able to get a better look at Anderson's tongue, in order to properly access the full scope of the damage, which "was pretty bad" he stated.

However, her recovery has not been easy.

A spokesman for University Medical Center in Lubbock told CNN on Saturday that Anderson's condition was "satisfactory" directly following surgery.

Anderson is now out of the hospital and healing at home with her family.

It is unclear how long Anderson will be recovering from her injuries, though based on the strength she has shown so far, it looks as though the universe is on her side.
