Jimmy Kimmel Holds Back Tears While Delivering Tribute To Bob Saget

This past week, the world at large learned of the sudden and tragic passing of Bob Saget. Bob was many things to so many different people. He was a TV star, a stand-up comedian, a brother, a father, and a friend.

Since the news of his death, there's been a steady outpouring of celebrities looking to immortalize Bob and encapsulate just how much he meant to them. None more so touching than Jimmy Kimmel, who delivered a tearful eulogy during his Monday night monologue.

These past few days have weighted heavy on the hearts and minds of the entertainment world.

That's because, on Sunday, January 9th, the world learned of the sudden and tragic passing of "America's Dad" — Bob Saget. The star of Full House was found dead inside his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida.

Since then, actors, comedians, and fans alike have been sharing their heartfelt tributes and remembrances of Bob.

To some, he was Danny Tanner from Full House. Others regaled him as one of the raunchiest stand-up comics that has or ever will be. But the one thing that they all had in common was that everyone considered Bob to be a friend.

One day after Bob's passing, his friend and fellow comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, spoke about Bob during his opening monologue.

In a pre-taped segment, a highly emotional Kimmel sought to honor and eulogize his fallen friend. Picking through all the kind words and memories shared by Bob's peers, Jimmy remarked how one constant theme kept presenting itself.

"If you saw any of the many thoughts from people who knew him personally," Jimmy began, "a word that came up a lot was 'the sweetest.' "

Jimmy continued by saying that the reason why so many people referred to Bob as "the sweetest" is that it was true — Bob Saget simply was one of the sweetest human beings you could ever hope to encounter.

"It's the best word — if you had to pick one word to describe him, that was it: the sweetest," Jimmy choked out.

Jimmy then went on to talk about all the thoughtful emails and supportive texts he'd received from Bob over the years. The thought of which brought him to tears.

According to Jimmy, Bob always had something nice to say

"He always had a compliment. He would write sometimes just to tell me he loved me, and I know he did that for many people," the late-night host said through muffled cries.

Jimmy also made sure to mention how genuinely funny Bob Saget was.

Jimmy wasn't referring to Full house or America's Funniest Home Videos, either. According to Jimmy, Bob was funny "for real" — the kind of guy you'd want to spend the whole night laughing with because he always had something funny to say about everything.

But more importantly, Jimmy remarked, was that Bob had nothing bad to say about anyone.

Jimmy said that as soon as he learned the news of Bob's passing, he went searching through his cache of emails and texts exchanged between him and the Full House star.

Jimmy then pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket, and began to read an especially touching e-mail Bob had written about their children.

"One night soon let's go out and have some meat and some good damn drinks and talk about how lucky we are that we have them," Bob's hallowed words rang out.

The Emmy-winning late-night host also revealed that when his own son was in the hospital, Bob was there for him.

"When my son was in the hospital, Bob checked in — a lot. So, I want to send love to his daughters, to his wife Kelly, and to his friends who loved him so much," Kimmel said.

Jimmy then brought things full circle, declaring that Bob really was the sweetest man he'd ever known.

"He was very kind to everyone, and he had no problem telling you that he loved you and what you meant to him."

Needless to say that things seem a little less funny, and a lot sadder. RIP Bob Saget, this world is a better place with having been in it.
