Genius Potato Hack Means We Can Throw Away Our Peelers For Good

Who here loves potatoes? I have to admit a potato is my favorite vegetable. I pretty much grew up on meat and potatoes, haha.

So we often boil potatoes in my house, but not until now did I find out about this cooking hack. It saves you from having to peel the potatoes with the peeler. Wait, what? Oh, yeah. Check this out.

Let me ask you: do you use a potato peeler, or do you freehand it?

I can't freehand it, lol. My mom and my fiancé do it well. But anyway, the potato peeler is a staple in my house, and I use it frequently.

And I, personally prefer my potatoes peeled.

It's pretty much my go-to. But as it turns out, you don't have to use a peeler at all when boiling potatoes. All you need to do is follow this cooking hack.

A lady on TikTok who goes by the handle @athomewithshannon just shared this hack.

In the video, which has since gone viral, she lets us on a little secret. There's a better way to cook potatoes without having to peel them.

She starts off by boiling the potatoes with the skin on in a pot of water.

Then when they're done, she puts them in a bowl of ice water to quickly "shock" them. Wow, did you know about this idea here, huh?

I did not!

So back to this story. Now, when she takes the potatoes out of the icy water, guess what? Apparently, the skin just peels off.

Come again? Oh, yeah. That's right. You see, you don't even have to peel them with this method here.

OMG!

As it turns out, it's an old trick that many people have used before. I confess, I never heard of it until now. And I've been cooking potatoes for a very long time, haha. My mom never told me about this.

Okay, here's the thing though this video did stir up some controversy.

Not everyone was thrilled about this cooking hack. Wouldn't this technique make the potatoes cold? I don't know about you, but I like to eat my potatoes hot.

Plus, isn't that a lot of extra work?

That's what I think too. And I guess plenty of folks agree with me too. I like to peel my potatoes first, and then I boil them. That's how I have always done this.

So what's your take on this cooking hack?

Would you do this in your kitchen? Or do you think it's just an extra step that's way more time-consuming than peeling the potatoes in the first place?

Which side are you on, haha? I'm sticking to my method. Thank you.
