Woman Sparks Backlash After Showing Pet Turkey Another One Cooking In Oven

As Thanksgiving has just passed, turkey has had an obvious reason to be on a lot of people's minds lately.

And while that's usually because of the frustrations that can come from trying to cook one, some people seem to pick this time of year to use their poultry in other bizarre ways.

Recent years have also seen people become a little more conflicted about their relationship with the traditional holiday bird, which seems to come out in full force when someone is keen to treat turkeys both as friends and food.

But one TikTok seems to have brought us closer to that disconnect than ever before and a lot of people really aren't happy about it.

On November 25, a TikTok user named @our10acres released a video in which her pet turkey came face to face with the bird she was cooking for Thanksgiving.

As the turkey silently stands and gazes into the oven, we can hear a woman's voice ask, "What you doing, bub?"

And as the turkey in the oven captures the bird's attention, she goes on to say, "It's OK, you don't know him. You don't know him."

Although the video is only about 11 seconds long, it seems it captured the scene for long enough to inspire some real outrage.

Critics accused the woman of finding a morbid way to tease her turkey, with one person saying, "I'm not a vegan but videos like that make me want to become one."

As another user wrote, "It's still kind of sad and mean to be showing him that. I get you want to be funny but come in even for an animal, it is mean."

At the same time, the woman did have some defenders who in turn accused her detractors of being hypocritical.

In the words of one of them, "The same people saying that's wrong and cruel are the same people who are going to be eating Turkey and Ham later."

Others were simply mystified at how mad so many people seemed to get about the video.

Before long, @our10acres responded to the backlash and reminded people that turkeys don't think the same way that we do.

As she put it, "Turkeys are curious, but have no concept of ovens. He was mad I wouldn't let him eat it."

Her replies also revealed that the turkey's name is Big Red and that she understood while some users would feel sad about this sight. Nonetheless, she reiterated that the only thing Big Red felt anguished about was the fact that she wouldn't let him eat his peer.
