Alabama Lifeguard Goes Extra Mile To Make 95-Year-Old Woman’s Holiday Perfect

Going on vacation is a time to relax and unwind. When one woman and her 95-year-old mother recently went on holiday, they came across a team of lifeguards who went out of their way to make sure that the pair got to enjoy the most out of their vacation.

The story of how the lifeguards made the duo's holiday extra wonderful has been warming hearts across the internet.

Kimberly Waterbury recently took her mother, Dottie Schneider, on a trip to Orange Beach, Alabama.

Dottie uses a wheelchair, having suffered a stroke some four years ago. When Kimberly and her mother arrived at the beach, Kimberly found that she was unable to get her mother's wheelchair over the beach's terrain outside of the Holiday Inn Express.

Fortunately, some of the beach's lifeguards were on hand to help out.

"Lifeguards are public servants and we could not be happier to help provide this service," Orange Beach Surf Rescue wrote in a Facebook post about the story.

"Dottie Schneider recently visited us here in Orange Beach at the age of 95 in hopes to enjoy the beach but was unable walk through the sand on her own. Everyday for one week Lifeguards would meet Ms. Dottie and her family to help assist her down to her beach chairs then at days end escort her back to the condo," they went on to explain.

Dottie's family were incredibly grateful and thanked the lifeguards with a "fridge full of food" at the end of the week.

Shane Martin, the lifeguard on duty, would often lift Dottie from her wheelchair into the all-terrain vehicle that he was driving, and then he would carry her onto one of the beach loungers where she could comfortably enjoy the beach.

The lifeguards made sure that someone was there to help Dottie each day of her holiday.

Kimberley and her mother were overwhelmed by the lifeguard's kindness.

"That was overwhelming,” Kimberly told Alabama Life. "[The lifeguards] were faithful. They were there. It made my mom's whole trip."

Kimberley went on to add that the lifeguard's kindness was particularly heartwarming as it meant that, for the duration of their trip, "I was not a caregiver, I was [my mother's] daughter."

Dottie's story has moved the hearts of countless people across the globe.
