Maria Shriver Defends Son-in-Law Chris Pratt Amidst 'Healthy Daughter' Controversy

Maria Shriver is defending her son-in-law Chris Pratt after the actor came under fire for the post he made about his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.

Last week, the 42-year-old caught heat online after thanking his wife for the birth of their "beautiful healthy" baby girl, after fathering a son who was born prematurely with his ex-wife Anna Faris.

Actor and father Chris Pratt was married to fellow actress Anna Faris from 2009 to 2018.

Fans were in disbelief when this funny pair called it quits after nearly a decade married and one son together, Jack Pratt.

The pair's son Jack was born premature and had to undergo several operations as a result.

Jack weighed just 3 pounds, 12 ounces at birth.

Today, Jack is nine and healthy, however, he currently has visual impairments as well as a non-life-threatening heart problem.

Last week, Chris got called out for what fans believed to be a dig at his ex-wife after praising his "healthy daughter" birthed by new wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.

As fans may recall, Katherine and Chris welcomed daughter Lyla Maria Pratt in August 2020.

Posting in praise of Katherine for seemingly no reason, Chris shared his sentiments in the caption of a picture of the pair. "Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks at you like that!! You know!?" he began.

"We met in church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes i put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that’s love!"

"She helps me with everything," he gushed. "In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade."

"Her heart is pure and it belongs to me. My greatest treasure right next to my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card. Which if you know, you know is saying a lot."

He concluded: "It’s her birthday in about 6 weeks. So if I don’t get her anything, I’ll tell her to look back on this post. Love you honey."

While some followers thought the post was sweet, a lot of others took big issues with it.

The backlash was intense, leaving Chris feeling "depressed" on the night the post went out.

Now, Chris' mother-in-law Maria Shriver is defending him in the post's comment section.

"I want to remind you today what a good man you are and what a great father you are to jack and lyla… what a great husband you are to Katherine… what a great son-in-law you are to me and what a great sense of humor you have," Maria wrote.

"Rise above the noise. Your family loves you. What a beautiful life. I'm proud of you," she added.

Katherine has yet to speak publically about the backlash.
