Celebrities Who Threw Traditional Parenting Rules Out The Window

Trying to compare celebrity parenting with normal people parenting is like apples and oranges.

In other words, entirely different (Gwyneth Paltrow even named her daughter Apple. What kind of regular person would do that?).

So it should come as no surprise that many celebs have thrown traditional parenting rules out the window.

Here are 15 shocking examples of that!

1. Mila Kunis and Asthon Kutcher

When the couple was on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, they admitted to some poor shower hygiene.

"I don't wash my body with soap every day," Mila shared, adding that she does wash her armpits and private areas daily.

The couple also admitted to not showering their children, Wyatt, 6, and Dimitri, 4, often.

"When I had children, I also didn't wash them every day. I wasn't the parent that bathed my newborns—ever," Mila said.

"If you can see the dirt on them, clean them," Ashton said. "Otherwise, there's no point."

2. Angelina Jolie

The A-list actress wants her children to reject the notions of regular education.

"Instead of tomfoolery in the classroom, I'd rather them go to a museum and learn to play guitar and read and pick a book they love,” she said.

3. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

This gorgeous couple is raising some "woke" children. That's because they are very careful about how they use gender roles and pronouns.

Lively gave an example of this during an interview with Glamour.

After they joked that one of their daughters was bossy, Ryan said, "I don’t ever want to use that word again. You’ve never heard a man called bossy.'”

"There would never be any negative connotation for a man being a boss, so to add a negative connotation on a woman being bossy? It’s belittling."

4. Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard

While the pair are normally #parentinggoals, they sparked controversy when they revealed that they locked their young children, Lincoln and Delta, into their bedrooms at night.

"My 3-year-old decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago," Bell told Parents.

Since she said that her youngest would turn the lights on, annoy her sister, make loud noises, and move the furniture around, the couple decided to lock her in.

"We switched the doorknob. We turned the lock on the outside."

5. Alicia Silverstone

When the Clueless actress's son was little, she didn't use diapers.

She explained her reasoning in her book, writing that using diapers are “fuelled by corporate-backed pseudoscience.”

She wrote that children are “much more content leaving their business in the grass than having to sleep and eat accompanied by their own pee and poo."

6. Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady

Alicia wasn't the only celeb to raise her child without diapers.

This gorgeous couple did the same with their son, Benjamin! He would run around naked all day and then Gisele would hold him over the toilet when it was time to go potty.

7. Mayim Bialik

The Big Bang Theory alum's parenting has always been a source of controversy.

She breastfed her son until he was four under the attachment principle of parenting. She also raises her two sons on a vegan diet.

8. Mila Kunis, again

Mila The Grinch doesn't give her kids Christmas presents!

This is done to prevent raising spoiled children. So if grandparents want to spoil the kiddos, Mila tells them to make a charitable donation instead.

9. Alanis Morissette

The singer believes in a free-spirited education for her children. She allows them to decide what they want to learn that day.

"I basically get inside their eyeballs. I'm constantly watching their eyes and what they're pulled toward, and then we do the deep dive," she told Health.

10. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith

This unorthodox couple wants their children, Jaden and Willow, to tell them everything.

In order to do so, they came up with the "circle of safety." "They're allowed to tell us everything that they did [in the circle of safety], and they can't get in trouble," Smith told Jimmy Fallon in 2016.

11. Kelly Ripa

When the TV host's daughter came to her wanting an Instagram account, Ripa refused.

She said that Lola couldn't have a public account until she was 18. Smart parenting in this day and age of technology!

12. Alicia Silverstone, again

As a big believer of veganism (she started when she was 12), she passed on her eating habits to her son when he was eight.

While some find this controversial, she credits the diet to his good behavior.

13. Gwyneth Paltrow

Given her controversial health methods, it's not surprising that this extends to her two children.

She has strict rules around the TV. They can only watch a certain number of hours and the shows have to be in different languages!

14. Kate Hudson

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress has a gender-less approach to parenting.

"I think you just raise your kids individually regardless — like a genderless [approach]. We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as," Hudson said in an interview with AOL.

15. Madonna

If you thought Madonna was a chill parent, you thought wrong!

She's quite the old-school disciplinarian, as shown from her rules of banning TV and newspapers and making her kids follow the same macrobiotic diet she eats.

This means no sweets, salt, dairy products, or preservatives. What kind of life is that?!

She also takes away clothes that are left on the floor. "We take all of her clothes and put them in a bag, and she has to earn all of her clothes back by being tidy," she told Newsweek.
