Will Smith Admits Marriage To Jada Pinkett Smith Is Not Monogamous

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are one of the most talked-about Hollywood couples. Yes, they're a gorgeous duo. Yes, they've raised bright, beautiful children together, but that's not what we want to chat about today.

Today, we're going to be talking about the fact that despite Jada being scrutinized last summer for her affair rapper August Alsina, the pair has been a non-monogamous for years now.

As you may recall, Will and Jada's relationship was under a microscope last summer when news broke that Jada had been having an affair with rapper Augst Alsina.

Jada initially denied the claims, however, once Will took part in an interview for her Facebook show Red Table Talk, she admitted that an "entanglement" had occurred.

At the time, however, the pair failed to mention that their relationship wasn't monogamous.

Now, Will is opening up about his more unconventional marriage to Jada, and explained that they have both had sex outside of their marriage.

"Jada never believed in conventional marriage," the actor told "GQ" in a new interview.

"Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up," he explained.

"There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple?" he explained.

"And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection."

"We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison," he added.

Will made it clear, however, that their unorthodox way isn't for everyone.

“And I don’t suggest our road for anybody," he warned.

"But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love."

Later in the interview, Will explained why the pair hadn't revealed their open relationship to the public during the "Red Table Talk" last year.

"The public has a narrative that is impenetrable," he said. "Once the public decides something, it’s difficult to impossible to dislodge the pictures and ideas and perceptions."

As for that now iconic picture of him looking teary-eyed from that interview, Will assured the publication he wasn't crying.

"It was midnight and we were going on vacation the next day," Will explained, noting that the details they were discussing were, by that point, old news.

"It was like, no, no, no, guys, I’m not sad. I’m [expletive] exhausted."

Well, that's a relief!

He went on to explain that he wouldn't mind being more open about his unconventional lifestyle, but he's just not ready for the public backlash.

"It may seem hard to believe, but I would lose sleep over not giving you the answer that I know you could use," Will told the publication

"I want to help you, I want you to succeed, I want you to have a headline. But by the same token, I don’t want to deal with the backlash of that in the world."

"To say I don’t want to talk about that three years ago would have been [expletive] excruciating for me.”

We appreciate Will's honesty, and we're happy he and Jada have found what works for them!
