Twitter Responds Savagely To Chris Pratt Portraying Super Mario In Upcoming Film

Mario has been a staple of the video-game industry, and pop-culture as a whole, for over three decades — however, the recent cast list announcement for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie has brought Nintendo a swathe of negative attention on Twitter.

The cast list has not exactly been a hit, with Chris Pratt bearing the majority of the criticism.

The announcement was immediately received poorly by the majority of fans.

Most notably, the brunt of people's confusion and irritation came at the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will be providing the voice of the world-renowned Italian plumber.

The cast list as a whole was nothing short of a star-studded affair, featuring the likes of: Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jack Black.

Chris Pratt bore the brunt of the negative reactions to the cast list.

Aside from Pratt's casting, most people were happy with the cast list, particularly praising the casting of Jack Black as Bowser and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.

However, the majority of people were, quite understandably, annoyed that there would not be an Italian actor to play the Italian plumber.

"Chris Pratt playing Mario is italiaphobia and I'm tired of acting like it isn't," wrote Twitch streamer Hasanbi.

There was also some debate over why the original voice actor could not portray the plumber.

Many people wished to have seen Charles Martinet, who has provided the voice of Mario since the 1990s, be given the chance to provide the voice of Mario in the upcoming film. One thing is for sure, it would sound more like Mario.

People were quick to provide their own fan castings as well, some of which were a joy to behold.

The undoubted fan favorite to portray the coin-obsessed plumber was none other than Danny DeVito, with a plethora fans calling upon Nintendo to see their dreams come to life.

I'm not going to lie, I would love to see DeVito tackle such a role — the man has phenomenal range.

Jason Mamoa portraying the adorable Kirby was one of the more ridiculous ideas.

One of the arguments for this was that Ryan Reynolds managed to portray Pikachu well, so anything is possible. However, I think that this one may be a bit of a stretch.

Another person suggested that, should Mamoa not want to portray Kirby, The Rock should take the role instead. People seem to really want a beefcake to play Kirby, what can I say?

The casting of the upcoming Mario movie has brought back memories of the previous Mario film for a lot of people.

Anyone who has seen the 1993 masterpiece that is the Super Mario Bros. movie starring the late, great Bob Hoskins will know that this upcoming movie has some big shoes to fill. What a film that is, just so many...strange choices.

Here's hoping that Pratt will have a better experience on the upcoming Mario film.

Do you think that Chris Pratt will deliver a good performance as the iconic plumber?

Not all of the reactions were negative, with one individual positively writing, "I'm sorry guys, but I can visualize Chris Pratt as Mario basically being Emmet, saying a lot of his lines and having a very optimistic attitude and personality."

I suppose that we will just have to wait and see!
