Last year, TikTok became obsessed with putting astroturf on everything. One user actually put it inside their car — we're talking cup holders, handles, the works.
Now, the creative and insane DIYers of TikTok have taken it one step further: chia cars.
"I've always wanted a Chia Pet that was big enough to drive around, so I made this."
This is Ali Spagnola, a TikTok user who specializes in doing deeply weird things. And that? Well, that's her chia car.
She covered her car in actual chia seed and genuinely grew it on the frame. This looks like SO much work, but the end result is kind of worth it.
I remember nothing about chia, so that seems really fast to me. The whole car was fluffy and made of plants in only SIX DAYS. Guys, that is so cool.
Some were shocked that it was actually alive. Spiderman was delighted that he could touch it. (Just another day in California, am I right?)
A shocking amount of people were incensed that this wasn't done to a Kia, for obvious naming reasons. I get it. Go big with your chia car, or go home.
Am I the only one who isn't sure if you can actually get away with covering your car in plants? It definitely feels like something your insurance company would have beef with.
Um. Yeah. If your car is a living, breathing ecosystem, it's going to attract living, breathing creatures. This comment single-handedly stopped me from wanting to do this to my car (I am easily persuaded to do chaotic things, okay?).
So, note to self: Don't chia anything in an outdoor area if you don't want that entire area to become chia, too.
Kinda want to chia my patio now, though.
Of course, most of the comments involved making incredible jokes about mowing your car.
