TikTok User Proves Dollar Store Foil Is Worth The Investment With Her DIY Wall Art

Ah, the dollar store. It's the tried and true place to get craft supplies on the cheap. But, how many times have you come across something in the dollar store craft aisle and had no idea how you would use it in a project? Like, for instance, those packs of gold foil?

Well, leave it to some creative DIYers to show us how you can turn this foil into inexpensive wall decor.

Meet Michelle.

Michelle found some gold foil at the dollar store, and boy did she use it in an amazing way. Using it and some other craft supplies, she turned a boring wall into an amazing one!

First, she drew on the wall.

"For the DIY, I used a projector to project the image onto the wall. So, if you were wondering how I traced it, that’s how I did it," she explained in a follow-up video.

She used gilding adhesive on the wall.

Once her lines were drawn on with pencil, she used gilding adhesive and a paintbrush to apply a thin layer of it over her lines. Make sure it's not too thick, or it'll take forever to dry.

The foil went on the wall next.

She waited for the adhesive to get tacky, then laid the foil on it. After it was stuck on there, she brushed away the excess foil with a soft-bristled brush.

The results were stunning.

It genuinely looks like she drew on her wall with a gold marker! And before you say, "Well, why didn't she just use a gold marker," let me tell you — those things do not have a finish like this does.

She posted some more information on her process, including where she bought her foil.

"The dollar store does have gold foil. It depends which ones you go to. The store I went to is called The Dollar Store With More and I think they also sold it at Dollarama — I have bought it there previously."

The other supplies were easy to find.

"Rhe brand is Forever in Time, and as you can see I did buy it from the dollar store. It was $1.50 for a pack of 6 sheets. I did buy quite a few packets of these, but it worked out well."

She described her adhesion process, too.

"Basically, I cut it up into smaller pieces to apply it onto the adhesive. First step, you need gilding adhesive. You don’t need a lot. Just give it a few seconds to dry tacky."

What do you think? Would you try this out on your walls? I totally would if I didn't rent my place, tbh.
