Celebrities Whose Pregnancies Were Written Into The Show

As they say in showbiz, the show must go on!

This could apply if a movie or show's lead was fired or an actress got pregnant.

While some TV shows hide pregnancies (Courteney Cox was pregnant during the last season of Friends), some shows use pregnancy as inspiration for new storylines.

Here are 10+ examples of that!

1. Zoe Deschanel in *New Girl*

FOX

The show runners of New Girl found creative ways to handle Zoe's pregnancy, both before and after giving birth.

Pre-baby, her character rode around on a scooter to hide her bump. Then, when she was on maternity leave, her character went to jury duty.

2. Chandra Wilson in *Grey's Anatomy*

ABC

The show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, shared that Bailey's pregnancy was the first written pregnancy on the show on Twitter.

Since it led to that hilarious George and Bailey birth scene, it was a good move.

3. Ellen Pompeo in *Grey's Anatomy*

Following Chandra Wilson, Ellen became pregnant with her first child in season 6.

But instead of writing her pregnancy into the show, they put her character, Meredith, on bed rest for giving part of her liver to her father.

4. Melissa Rauch in *The Big Bang Theory*

CBS

We'll never know if Howard and Bernadette were meant to have a second child, since the show was forced to write it in after Rauch became pregnant during Season 11.

5. Candice King in *The Vampire Diaries*

The show got super creative with King's pregnancy in Season 7. They ended up making Alaric and Jo's twins magically transferred to Caroline's womb. Legacies fans now watch these twins.

6. Lauren Lane in *The Nanny*

CBS

The actress, who played CC Babcock, was pregnant during most of Season Five.

While they didn't write her pregnancy into the story, they did create a story arc that involved her gaining weight after Fran and Max got engaged.

7. Jennifer Garner in *Alias*

FOX

Back when the actress starred in Alias, she became pregnant with her child with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck.

As a result, the show made her character, Sydney, pregnant during the show's final season.

That wasn't the only add-on to the script.

The show added the character, Rachel Gibson, so Sydney could train her when Jen couldn't perform crazy stunts anymore. This meant that the show was still action-packed.

8. Jenna Fischer in *The Office*

NBC

While her first pregnancy on the show was completely fiction, her second pregnancy came from Jenna actually being pregnant. This was announced on the Season 8 premiere of the hit NBC show.

Jenna revealed what the storyline was to Vulture.

"Pam and Jim snuck away last season on Valentine’s Day, and they had sex. The story is that they conceived this baby at that time and were keeping it a secret until we come back from the summer."

8. Ginnifer Goodwin in *Once Upon a Time*

ABC

While the actress was pregnant twice while starring on the show, they only wrote her pregnancy into the storyline once.

This was her first pregnancy, which means that Snow White and Prince Charming welcomed a son.

10. Melissa Fumero in *Brooklyn 99*

FOX

While the show hid the actress's first pregnancy in Season 3 (they had her character, Amy, go undercover), that wasn't the case for Season 7. They made her character pregnant just like Melissa.

Showrunner Dan Goor explained to *E! News* that they had plans to make Amy struggle with infertility in Season 7.

This was even Melissa's idea, but her real-life pregnancy changed those plans — for the better!

11. Chelsea Peretti in *Brooklyn 99*

FOX

Speaking of Brookyn 99, they had another pregnancy written in the show with the iconic character Gina. Of course, she let her co-workers know by saying, "You might as well know. I am with child."

12. Vanessa Morgan in *Riverdale*

"Feeling grateful to my showrunner & producers for being so accommodating & writing my pregnancy into the show!" Morgan wrote on Instagram. The writers made her character, Tori, pregnant after the seven-year time jump.

13. America Ferrera in *Superstore*

For those who wondered why the writers made her character, Amy, pregnant before she was ready to date Jonah, this is why.

She was pregnant in real life! Lauren Ash, who played Dina, shared some behind-the-scenes info to E! News.

Turns out, the cast had a feeling America was pregnant before she knew she was.

"We were on set, and randomly she said, 'I want pancakes so bad!' And Ben [Feldman] and Colton [Dunn] were like, 'Uh-oh! Somebody's pregnant!' and she was like, 'Shut up! No I'm not!'" Lauren said.

14. Lisa Kudrow in *Friends*

NBC

Phoebe's triplets storyline was written to cover up Lisa's real-life pregnancy. This, of course, meant being a surrogate for her brother Frank and his wife, Alice.

Later, Lisa shared that the cast had an adorable behind-the-scenes ritual when she was pregnant.

"The six of us would do a huddle backstage and just say, 'All right, have a good show, love you, love you, love you,'" she shared.

"And when I was pregnant, then they would say, 'Have a great show. Love you, little Julian!
