Marriage Proposal At Baseball Game Goes About As Wrong As It Can In Awkward Clip

While it's very common for couples to discuss potential marriage plans when they stay together for long enough, it still usually comes as a surprise when one of them pops the question.

And of course, that's often by design as the person who takes that plunge wants it to be an arresting and significant moment that feels like a perfect way to ring in such a big new chapter in their lives together.

But while a proposal might be a nice surprise, it can end up carrying some severe risk if that surprise happens in a place where the couple is surrounded by strangers.

And it's hard to describe how one man learned this unfortunate lesson as any way but "the hard way."

On July 16, an regional outlet called What's the Word Massachusetts posted a video on Instagram that showed a man proposing to his girlfriend at a minor-league baseball game.

In a separate video posted to Twitter, the couple can be seen standing on an elevated platform at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts before the man gets down on one knee.

But while her initial shock was likely to be expected, it didn't take long before the woman showed signs that this proposal wasn't going to go as planned.

In both clips, she can be seen frantically looking around the crowd and shaking her head. It's immediately clear that this moment isn't just shocking for her, but overwhelming and unwelcome.

And that's quickly confirmed when she starts hovering around the stepladder they used to get up there.

While the din of the crowd in too loud for her to be heard in the original clip, you should be able to hear her repeatedly saying, "I've got to go" in this one.

And as we can see, she then descends into the stands and starts running out of the stadium entirely.

As Insider reported, a fan named Steven Wooster called in to 98.5 The Sports Hub and spoke about the incident, saying, "I was sitting on the third-base side. I looked across and saw the gentleman in the purple jersey."

He continued, saying, "The woman was horrified after the proposal. She ran up the stairs. The gentleman ran after her with two of his buddies."

And while some are apparently suspicious that the couple staged this proposal, Wooster was convinced that it was real from the man's reaction.

As he put it, "I saw the whole thing. It was horrifying."

Oddly enough, this there seems to be rough track record for marriage proposals at minor league games.

At least, that's what we can glean from one commenter, who said that they saw pretty much the same thing happen at a hockey game played at the same level.

Maybe this isn't the best of ideas.
