23 Pics That Prove A Simple Design Is Usually The Best Kind Of Design

Sometimes, you don't know good design when you see it.

Why? Because some design is just so good that you assume whatever you're looking at was always that simple and clever. It's damn easy to spot bad design — we've seen that a quite a few times.

From toilet paper to zoos, the designers of these items absolutely understood their assignments.

How do all ketchup packets not look like this?

Seriously, why don't all those disposable packets look like the bottles? Even the ones in those rectangular packets should be bottle shaped! Get on it, Heinz. I'm waiting.

This is the level of social interaction I prefer.

I am obsessed with how perfectly this serves both the customer and the server. The server knows who needs help, and the customer can just chill and not worry about being checked on.

This genius sign speaks a thousand words.

I love a clever logo, and this one fits that bill to a tee. The "o" has been found, y'all! I really love this, and I love how your brain fills in that missing "o" thanks to the familiar phrase.

I've used one of these foot pulls, and they're GREAT.

I have no idea why these aren't used more widely, because they're so damn helpful — especially if you're germ averse, or...I don't know, living through a global pandemic.

This zoo's logo packs a lot in a clean design.

According to a Redditor, "The 2 spikes in the legs are the Cologne cathedral a very important landmark for the city."

I love zoo logos — they always do so much with so little.

Slippery when wet.

I can't believe it took humanity so long to do this, tbh. This genius banana design is so much more fun than those regular yellow signs! I love it.

This jar is infinitely reusable.

This mustard company added a handle to their jars! Instead of throwing the jars out, you can reuse them as mugs after you're done with the mustard. I'm obsessed.

This dentist went above and beyond for this bike rack.

Come on, try and tell me this isn't super smart. I love the little splat at the end of the rack — it's a small element, but it totally finishes the story.

Transparent marketing is always preferred.

GET IT? GET IT? BECAUSE IT'S SEE-THROUGH. Sorry, I just love this idea so much. It's simple, clever design like this that makes me admire designers so much.

Try and top this business card design, I dare you.

There's true beauty in this business card. I love the handwritten elements, the genius brackets, and the overall minimalism happening here. 10/10, would shop from Maggie's brand.

This design is SO damn smart.

These chairs have a simple notch in the back for a bag or a jacket. I mean, hello? Why don't all chairs have a notch cut into the back? At least in public spaces!

We love a plug that knows how to mind its business.

Is there anything more satisfying than a plug that doesn't block the other plug? I know, my standards are pretty low here, but still. It's the little things that make me happy.

Most intersections should have these.

This is a stand that bikers can hold onto and lean on while waiting for a light to change. They're currently implemented in Sweden, but I'd love to see them worldwide!

This is so satisfying.

This hotel door can close off just the toilet area, or the whole bathroom from the rest of the room. How satisfying is that? Plus, it allows a second person access to the sink while you're in the toilet area!

I need this in all my shirts.

This jacket has a glasses lens cloth sewn into the lining! I totally need this in all of my shirts, tbh. My glasses are slightly smudged 24/7. Oops!

Can they put this in all dorms from now on?

The privacy this would actually offer students cannot be understated. Imagine actually being able to vibe by yourself on that top bunk! Now, if only these had guard rails for those active sleepers...

This is sustainable AND useful!

"This toilet paper roll contains a mini paper roll to carry with you, instead of a hollow cardboard roll!" Redditor u/ENG-zwei shared.

I love the idea of this portability moment!

Truly genius shower design happening here.

Everyone seems to be replacing their shower/tub combos with big showers lately. Gone is pushing back the shower curtain to get to the tap — but never fear, someone found a solid solution to a problem many people didn't know they'd have.

Now that's a genius handle.

How would you feel grabbing the handle of this butcher's front door? I absolutely love how simple and effective this integrated theming is. It's the little things, you guys.

Trader Joe's has barcodes figured out, guys.

If there's one thing I love, it's clever barcodes. This Greek yogurt container has a Green column extending down into a barcode! I love this so much.

All spoons need this feature.

"The spoons in this japanese restaurant have a little nudge on their end so they don’t fall into the bowl."

All spoons need this. Well, all spoons are meant for soup, anyway.

This is a problem I didn't know needed solving.

Now that I see it, of course single-use butter should come with a little knife! No more shoving a comically large knife tip into a tiny package for us.

And finally: everything No Name has ever done.

Welcome to Canada, where one brand named itself No Name, branded all of its stuff yellow, and labels everything very literally. It's both hilarious and practical, and that's why it's genius.
