Tenant Documents Landlord's Epic DIY Flooring Fail

As a renter, there's no call more terrifying than one from your landlord announcing they want to make changes to your place.

You'd think a renter would be happy to get an upgrade, right? But seasoned renters know a landlord coming in to do an "upgrade" often results in nothing but trouble.

TikTok user @torit10 learned that the hard way when their landlord wanted to put in new floors. The results? Well...

Hey, new floors sound great, right?

That's what user @torit10 thought would be the case when their landlord decided to lay down some new floors in their rental.

The TikTok started off by showing the part of the floor that looked pretty good. Love a marble moment!

Okay, so it could be better.

Listen, it could be better. Maybe he could just cut off a bit more panelling (because these were peel and stick panels, of course) and fill in the gaps, right?

Oh, okay. So it's bad.

So we can see that some of those spaces and cracks are definitely in need of some filling. Nothing that can't be fixed with some generous grout, of course.

It's BAD bad.

Ignore everything I just said. Honestly, this man should never be allowed to go near power tools or any kind of DIY ever again. Lock the tools up and throw away the key.

The landlord then admitted he had no idea what he was doing.

And in a follow-up video, @torit10 explained:

"So, the landlord came back and he put some trim on where the humungous, gaping holes were on the sides. My partner actually put on the white caulking […] it wasn’t even put on before."

Some people suggested he did it poorly on purpose.

"I mean, it’s very obvious that it’s a poorly done job, so I don’t know. Maybe he did the flooring bad [sic] to get us to move out, but honestly, why waste the money? You know what I mean?" She said.

It's this one.

If your landlord does something like this to your place, keep as much evidence as you can of it. Make sure you get your security deposit back, y'all. Protect your money.

As a fellow resident of Vancouver, I feel confident in saying this is CLASSIC Vancouver.

It's open knowledge around here that landlords pinch more pennies than in other cities, thanks to our CRAZY high rent. Unless you live in a bougie building, stuff like this is very common with a lot of landlords.

(No, it's not all of you landlords, don't get it twisted.)

Landlords, please do better than this guy.

We have a symbiotic relationship. I pay you rent, and in return you don't do weird stuff to in my unit with my rent money.

If you want to put in new anything, please hire a contractor. Please. For all our sakes.
