Flight Attendant Gives Reasoning Behind Looking At Passengers Closely Before Take-Off

Ever wondered why flight attendants do certain things?

Like take forever to let people board or avoid eye contact when you're trying to ask for more peanuts?

What about when flight attendants stare so closely at passengers before take-off? One flight attendant has the inside scoop on that.

What she says is pretty shocking.

Is anyone here as obsessed with flying to other countries as I am?

Despite my love for leaving my country to go to another, there is so much I don't know about the life of pilots and flight attendants.

But recently, I learned something new.

Thanks to the internet, we've learned so many secrets from flight attendants.

HBO

Some are funny, some are weird, and some may even make you rethink your future travel plans.

For instance, one Redditor shared that you should never use or place anything in the seat pocket.

"I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there," they wrote.

This includes dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, gum.

Some people even place their dirty feet in there. gags. "And then next flight you go and put your phone/laptop/iPad in there."

Plane failures happen a lot more than you'd think.

NBC

Which, to be honest, is the most frightening thing I've learned today.

"As a pilot, I have experienced at least one failure on a plane per month," this person wrote.

"Pretty much every plane flying right now has at least one thing broken and is just waiting to be fixed the next time it's due for maintenance."

You should also be aware that flight attendants talk... a lot.

They know everything about everyone, including which passengers are trying to vape, which person just stunk up the washroom, and so on.

Some of these facts even get put in the airline database for future flights. Yikes!

This next secret comes from TikToker @katkamalani.

She's a flight attendant who recently explained why flight attendants look so closely at passengers before take-off.

This often happens when they're greeting you at the front or when they're taking several slow laps up and down the aisle.

Their A.B. What?

She explains that this stands for "Able Body Person."

In other words, they are the people who are going to help the flight attendants if there is an emergency.

Certain people make the cut more than others.

While you might think they're staring because they're into you (you're looking fine in your airport sweats, obv) or because there's food on your face, it's neither.

It has something to do with safety instead

As Kat explained: "We're actually looking you up and down and trying to find our A.B.P."

A military member, for example, would be considered useful.

And it's not just that profession. Other useful professions include pilots, firefighters, cops, doctors, and nurses.

I bet you can already see what all these people have in common, right?

They are the most well-equipped to handle emergencies.

This includes things such as medical emergencies, a security breach, or those stressful occasions when they have to suddenly land the plane.

"We know who's on our plane and who can help us," she continued.

Turns out, that's not the only reason.

Kat explained that flight attendants are looking intently at passengers for another surprising reason: human trafficking. Apparently, it happens a lot in the flying industry.

"So I'm pointless on a plane," added another.

One person volunteered herself as the food emergency help since they "carry really good snacks."

Others were really curious about how the workers know who's a doctor or not.

To this, Kat cheekily replied, "oh we know."

Finally, one user shared how they would do the job: "I'd be looking for the cute guys."

SAME.

"If you see something... SAY something," she wrote, while emphasizing that passenger safety is number one.

Users really appreciated the insider info. They also joked about whether they would make it as an A.B.P. "Them looking at me like.... "ok useless," wrote one.
