FYI: The Color Of A Child's Swimsuit Can Actually Keep Them Safe

It's that time again: swimming season!

Parents should be reading up on swimming safety and getting the floaties out of storage.

Another thing they should be doing is rethinking their child's bathing suit. This isn't for style or functionality — it's for safety.

A new study has learned that the color of your child's swimsuit could save their lives.

Here's why.

It comes from ALIVE Solutions Inc., a company that specializes in aquatic safety.

Recently, they tested different swimsuit colors to determine their visibility in pools and open water.

The top row of the pool test shows the fabric underwater, while the bottom row shows the fabric in moving water.

They tested the same colors in 18 inches of lake water with low visibility on a day when it was partly sunny.

By doing so, they determined that the bottom two colors for visibility are white and light blue (they disappear in the pics).

ALIVE pointed out that darker colors are worrying as well since they can often be mistaken for things, such as leaves, dirt, or a shadow.

So, what are the best colors for a child's bathsuit?

For the pool, the top choices are neon pink and neon orange.

Meanwhile, in a lake, the top colors for visibility are neon yellow, neon green, and neon orange. "Think bright and contrasting," the company writes.
