More Than Anything, Moms Want To Relax On Mother's Day

With Mother's Day here, many people are still left scratching their heads wondering what to get. Flowers are certainly a nice touch and it's true that chocolates never go out of style. But this year, moms all over the world want something more.

Mainly, they want to be free of the normal everyday stresses that rule their lives. Mothers want a day that is truly all about them and more than anything else — moms just want to be able to relax on Mother's Day.

One thing that everyone can agree on is that being a mom is one tough job.

Have you ever heard that old saying "not all heroes wear masks"? I'm pretty sure that whoever said that was referring to moms all over the globe.

Our mothers are our caregivers, our rock, and our unwavering emotional support. They're there in the good times and they help us get through the bad. And now that Mother's Day is here, many people are wondering what all they can do to make the day memorable.

According to a recent survey, the answer to that question may not be as difficult as most make it out to be.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone, but especially difficult for mothers with small children. According to a recent survey conducted by @parents, what mothers are asking for, above all else, is a day of rest.

More than 30% of mothers surveyed said that what they wanted most was a good night's sleep, another 30% answered that what would make them most happy is a day off or some alone time.

So in order to help you to celebrate your mother in the manner that best suits her, here are a few helpful hints:

One great idea is to send your mother off to a hotel room for the day. Let her order room service, take a nice hot bath, and stretch out on a king-size bed. It may sound simple but even the busiest moms still have a Netflix queue.

A 24hr recharge will help mom to rebalance and restart, just make sure that you also provide plenty of champagne and chocolates for her to sip and munch on.

For all the dads out there, try letting mom be the fun parent for the day.

Speaking in generalities, moms are typically forced to play the heavy while dads get to bask in the glory of being the cool parent. It's unfair and constantly having to play the disciplinarian can grow weary.

In order to help lighten the load, try swapping roles just for the day. Let mom be the one to take the kids out for a treat and spoil their appetites before dinner. She'll not only thank you for it, but perhaps it will also help you to gain some perspective.

Another great idea is to let her spend the day pampering herself.

Pampering can mean something different to each and every woman, so make sure that before you pull the trigger and get your mother a gift card to the spa — make sure it's something she's going to actually enjoy.

Sit down and talk, ask her questions, probe her mind until you are utmost certain of her deepest desires. Then go ahead and pay for her to get her hair done, a massage, manicure, etc.

You could also plan a fun filled family adventure!

The trick here, dad, is that you are actually the one who plans it. Take control and grab the reigns, spend the day with the kids going for a hike, have a picnic in the woods, or spend the day at the beach.

It truly matters not what you do, it only matters that your wife/girlfriend/partner has no say or responsibility in the matter whatsoever. Remember, this is supposed to be a treat for her, not for you.

Lastly, and probably the most simple and obvious answer of all — spend time with your mother on Mother's Day!

The gift of our time is without question the most valuable thing we can ever bestow upon another human being. This Mother's Day, sacrifice an afternoon out of your busy schedule and spend the day catching up with the woman who brought you into this world.

Most mothers with adult children don't get to see them as much as they'd like, so why not make your mom's day by showing up unannounced on her doorstep and take her to lunch? Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
