People Are Crocheting Life-Like Baby Dolls And It's Something You Can't Un-See

The world of crochet is full of so much variety and creativity. In most cases, if you can dream it, you can crochet it!

So I think my next question would be... how many people are dreaming of hyper-realistic crochet babies?

Not only do these dolls exist, but you can even download the patterns and create your own versions at home.

The patterns are free to download on Ravelry.com.

With a startling degree of realism, Cleoschrochetart has put together three patterns for full-size, to-scale crochet babies.

Including eyelids that open and close, and a mouth that opens to fit a soother, the pattern is available to download on Ravelry for free.

Though the idea is cute, the result is a tad unsettling.

In theory, the idea makes sense. If your kid is going to play with a doll, they probably want it to feel soft and squishy like a real baby.

But I'm not sure how many people would be happy with a doll whose home is smack-dab in the middle of uncanny valley, three doors down from Chucky and Annabelle.

Crochet is a wonderful texture, but should it be used to represent skin?

The charming thing about crochet is that no matter what you make, you can see the signature stitch texture and patterns.

On the other hand, pair that with something that's made to look realistic and you've got a potentially uncomfortable combo. No matter how real it looks, it's always going to look like scales.

Reddit users seem to have a love/hate relationship with the dolls.

Offering three different baby crochet patterns, each one provides you with a slightly different element of realism: Baby Louis with his "don't mess with me" attitude, Baby Sophie with her real human hair, and Baby Emily with her dimply wrinkled skin.

Awash with people who either love it or hate it, the three babes are stirring up quite the response on Reddit.

Is the amount of work worth the results?

Mixed among comments of shock, horror, and adoration, user DianneSantaBarbara points out a commonly felt sentiment that each doll is "so much work with super creepy results".

How do you feel about these realistic crochet baby patterns? Do you see the appeal? Or are you on side of Sephie_Chaos815 who would "immediately set them on fire"? Let us know in the Facebook comments!
