According to surveys, over 62% of people say that social media makes them feel bad about themselves. People say using apps like Instagram and Pinterest make them feel "fat."
Sharing side-by-side photos of herself and a woman on Pinterest wearing similar outfits, she got very candid with her followers.
Brooklyn Allen says she's, "Missing the key accessory that makes these outfits so desirable and perfect to society, and that is a flat stomach."
“I’m completely okay with thin women using what they have, but I just want people to understand that it’s not the same for fat women."
"Our fat stomachs are systemically considered an imperfection, while a thin stomach is something that society would see as an elevation to an outfit," she told BuzzFeed.
"Fat women don’t have the privilege of accessorizing with their fat stomachs unless they want stares and rude comments," she said.
In the photos from Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok, women are flaunting their flat stomachs in fashionable outfits. Allen recreated the outfits and the poses exactly the same way to prove a point.
Many times women will see an outfit online and love it, not thinking how it would look on their own body type if they are not "stick thin."
One person said that on Pinterest, they catch themselves saying, "Do I like the outfit or the body?"
One user said they "cried" because they had tried on an outfit and it didn't look the same on them.
One TikTok user said the video made them more "aware" to look at how clothes will fit on their own body, rather than judging simply how it looks on the model.
Her entire TikTok is filled with amazing videos where she struts her stuff and shows that clothes are made for EVERYONE.
From the looks of it, she will continue to make content that she feels good about, and hey, that's all anyone can do.
