Their fights go way beyond what's normal. We're talking messy divorces, custody battles, talking bad about each other to the tabloids, and emancipation. Some celebs have even sued their parents!

Here are 10+ celebs who separated themselves from their parents.

1. The Kardashian sisters

Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé separated themselves from Caitlyn Jenner after she wrote that their father knew O.J. Simpson was guilty of murder in her autobiography, The Secrets of My Life.

"She is a liar. She is not a good person," Kim retaliated on the family's show.

2. Macaulay Culkin

Now that the Home Alone actor has welcomed his first child with Brenda Song, hopefully, he can parent differently than his parents.

Culkin alleged that he suffered physical and mental abuse from his father growing up.

3. Beyoncé

While Matthew Knowles was the singer's first manager, they have since parted ways — both personally and professionally.

Their issues stem from Matthew leaving the family several times while Bey was growing up. Eventually, her parents divorced in 2011.

The latest incident that caused Beyonce to distance from her dad happened in 2018.

While talking to Ebony magazine, he drew controversy when he asserted that a large part of his daughter's success is due to her light skin.

4. Demi Lovato

When Patrick Lovato passed away from cancer in 2013, he was still estranged from his famous daughter.

"When somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do," she told the New York Daily News in 2009.

5. Adele

When Adele accepted Record of the Year at the 2017 Grammys, she made it clear that she's not close with her father, Mark Evans.

"I don't love my dad, that's the thing," she said while thanking her longtime manager, Jonathan Dickins. "That doesn't mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad."

Their rocky relationship stems from Mark's alcohol addiction.

"I was putting away two liters of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day," he told The Sun in 2011.

Any chance at reconciliation were squashed when Mark shared Adele's childhood pics to the tabloids.

6. Leighton Meester

The Gossip Girl star has lived the very opposite of a Blair Waldorf life.

For one, she was born in prison while her mother, Constance Meester, was serving time for drug trafficking. Two, her mother stole money from her.

Constance had taken the money Leighton gave her to help with her brother's medical bills.

When she spent a large chunk of it on herself, Leighton sued her in 2011.

According to the Daily Mail, Leighton was not seeking to recover any money, and instead simply wanted her mother out of her life."

7. Eminem

Not many people can say they've been sued by their parents, but the rapper can.

This shook down in 1999 when Debbie Mathers-Briggs accused her son of slandering her name in several interviews, "implying she was an unstable drug abuser."

8. Matthew McConaughey

For eight years, the Dallas Buyers Club actor was estranged from his mother, Kay.

"I would share things with her... some of those things I would share might show up in the six o’clock news three days later," he recalled on Red Table Talk.

9. Ryan Locte

The Olympic swimmer hasn't spoken to his mother in years after she wasn't supportive of him and his wife, Kayla Rae Reid, having kids.

"When I told her that she was going to be a grandma ... she said some very, very hurtful things that kind of ended our relationship, me and her."

10. Drew Barrymore

The actress's relationship with her mother has been rocky from a young age.

Her mom sent her to a rehab institution by age 13. By the age of 15, she was legally emancipated from her parents.

While she said it was to get past child labor law restrictions back then, that wasn't the whole story.

"I've never just been angry with her," Drew told Marie Claire in 2014 about her mom. "But we can't really be in each other's lives at this point."

11. Kate Hudson

While she's insanely close with her mom, Goldie Hawn, the same can't be said about her dad, Bill.

Their dynamic changed after her parents divorced. In 2015, Bill even told the Daily Mail that he no longer recognizes Kate or her brother as his children.

12. Taylor Momsen

Her life mirrored her Gossip Girl character when she became emancipated from her parents in real life.

That's because her parents made her "miserable" growing up by forcing her to work in modeling and acting from a young age.

13. Ariel Winter

The Modern Family star was only 14 when she filed a restraining order against her mother, Crystal Workman, for allegedly being physically and verbally abusive.

She ended up living with her older sister who was granted temporary guardianship.

When the family went to court, their issues were aired out.

For instance, it was discovered that the star was nearly fired from Modern Family because of her mom's behavior.

Ariel went on to become legally emancipated from her mom before she turned 18.
