Homeowners Discover Giant Monopoly Board After Ripping Up Old Carpet

Home renovation can be stressful, especially when it comes to older houses that may have some unexpected surprises just waiting to be discovered.

Some previously-owned homes have dangerous secrets lurking inside their walls, such as harmful asbestos, rodent infestations, or other problems that no new owner would be pleased to find.

However, for one couple, the big surprise was finding a giant Monopoly board after removing some of the home's old carpet.

It all began when the couple decided to make some changes to their home.

Sometimes it's all about being out with the old and in with the new, or so this couple thought anyway.

Soon, their plans for home renovation led to one unexpected story that the couple's son-in-law would take to Reddit to tell.

There was a gigantic Monopoly board game under the carpet.

It was the last thing that the couple thought they'd discover when updating their home.

It seemed pretty bizarre and random to the couple as to why anyone would have a Monopoly board design on the floor, but apparently whoever lived there before them really loved the board game. Well, loved it enough to make a gigantic version of it in their own home.

As it turns out, these sorts of board game floors were quite common in the 50's.

After posting the odd find on the subreddit r/pics, the couple's son-in-law was given a bit of helpful context by some .

"Showed this to my wife, and she reminded me that there’s a whole neighborhood near us, built in the mid-50s, that has game boards painted or tiled onto their basement floors," one person wrote. "Seems to have been a selling point or something."

Maybe one of these days board game floors will be back in trend.

We're not sure what it was about the 50's and board game floors but maybe one day it'll be popular again.
