Artist Creates Massive Cross-Stitch Patterns To 'Graffiti' Buildings

Are you one of those people who stop dead in their tracks when you spot an unusual street art? I do, too. Not only that, but I find it so fascinating.

So imagine my surprise when I discovered this building that got transformed into a larger-than-life version of a cross stitch pattern. You absolutely have to see it to appreciate it.

Who would have thought of making such a large cross-stitch design on an actual building?

The creator's name is Raquel Rodrigo, an artist, and designer from Valencia, Spain. Rodrigo takes stitching into three dimensions, while playing with light and sound at the same time.

I have to admit, from far away, it looks just like graffiti, no?

But when you come closer, you realize that it's not graffiti at all. It's actually a cross-stitch pattern affixed to this Philadelphia Naval Yard property building.

I mean, what? How is that even possible?

This artist went through a lot of painstaking work to place this pattern on the building. She had to cut the metal mesh to fit around the windows and doors. Then fastened it to the brick.

If that's not enough, she took cords of different colors and created this epic design.

Wow! I'm pretty floored. Take a look at the detail here. It must've taken such a long time to achieve this stunning final effect.

So why did Raquel Rodrigo do this?

According to the artist, she wanted to bring feminine art that has dressed homes around the world to the street. However, her idea was to use a cross-stitch pattern to do so instead of graffiti.

How incredible is that?

I can honestly say that I have never seen anything quite like it. The thought that somebody can come up with an idea such as this is pretty brilliant to me. What do you think? Do you agree with me?

It is not the only project Rodrigo has worked on before.

She now travels around the world, beautifying buildings and making various street art. It must be such a thrill to see one of her works in person. I would absolutely love that.

Rodrigo prepares her detailed designs in advance.

Then she unrolls them at the chosen location. She desires to bring a dash of color and creativity to the surrounding area. I say that's exactly what this gorgeous street art accomplishes.

Are you as blown away by the sheer creativity of this talented artist?

I wish I could see her art up close and personal. Hopefully, someday during one of my travels, I will encounter a building adorned by Rodrigo's beautiful artwork.
