Healthcare Worker Wins $650,000 Dream Home From HGTV

Considering how we've all been stuck at home for so long, it's no surprise that so many have taken stock of their homes, dreamed of better things, and maybe even decided it's time to spruce things up a bit. If you can't really go anywhere, you're going to want to make your surroundings nicer, right?

No doubt, folks must have spent a few hours here and there binging on HGTV as well — in addition to Tiger King and The Mandalorian — getting ideas about how to level up their homes.

Well, that's a lot of work and bother — better to just win a new professionally decorated house, right? That was HGTV's thinking, anyway, and they just announced a fitting winner.

Seattle's Elise Kaiser is the lucky new owner of HGTV's 2020 Urban Oasis Dream Home.

Like many of us, Kaiser had a rough 2020. Working as a physician's assistant in outpatient neurosurgery at a major Seattle hospital, Kaiser has been in close proximity with the pandemic and patients right from the start. Her own wedding also had to be postponed in 2020, so news of this big win, in which she was selected out of more than 74 million entries, was more than welcome.

"Now I'm feeling very lucky," she told HGTV. "Before this I won local bingo at our church festivals. I feel like I'm a fortunate person, but luck is completely different and now I feel super lucky!"

Kaiser's new house is a gem, as you'd expect.

The 2,000 square-foot, three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom home is located near the core of Portland, Maine, and is valued at over $650,000.

In addition to the house and all the furnishings — outfitted by interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn — Kaiser will receive $50,000 from LendingTree.

HGTV even contrived a surprise to spring the news on Kaiser.

Flynn looped in Kaiser's fiancé, Matt, and her sister, Caroline, to set up a Zoom date with Kaiser. During the call, Flynn shocked Kaiser with the news that she had won the sweepstakes.
