Ah, spring is in the air. I always look forward to this time of the year because it means I can finally enjoy some time in my backyard.

From far away, these pretty blooms look just like a bundle of fluffy flowers. But when you look closer, you will see something entirely else appear.

Zoom in on the actual flowers, and you will see that they closely resemble naked men, hee, hee!

What did I just say? Oh, yes — naked men. I hope you didn't make you blush when I said that, but it's true.

This pretty yet funny-looking orchid is called the Orchis Italica.

It also goes by the commonly known name "naked man orchid" or the "Italian orchid." How did it get its name? Well, it's basically because of its unique appearance, of course.

The lobed lip (labellum) of each flower actually mimics the general shape of a naked man.

Apparently, people in Italy believe that the consumption of the plant is conducive to virility. Hmm, that's interesting. You can cook the root of this plant and eat it.

These flowers are commonly widespread in the Mediterranean and grow in large clusters.

They can grow up to 20 inches in height. You can easily spot them because their flowers are a pretty bright shade of pink. Wow!

They flower in April and prefer partial shade and low nutrient soil.

So if you're lucky, you can plant them just after frost. And then look forward to gorgeous blooms pretty soon afterward. I bet they will look so beautiful in your garden.

Don't worry about making your neighbors uncomfortable by the unique appearance of these flowers.

As I said, from far away, nobody would be the wiser. Unless they come much closer, they wouldn't even realize these flowers resemble little naked men, ha, ha!

Then again, they could be a great conversation starter.

Imagine the surprise once you point out the not-so-obvious? I might plant these in my garden just to see people's reactions. I think that would be so funny to encounter, no?

Can you believe there are so many funny-looking flowers out there?

Remember when I told you about the other orchid that looks like a cheeky monkey? Ha, ha, I can't get over it. Isn't nature so fascinating when it gives such curious gems?
