Paris Hilton Calls Her Resurfaced David Letterman Interview 'Cruel' and 'Mean'

It's so crazy to think of how different the world is today than it was even just a decade ago! While some of you might be too young to remember the world before smart phones, social media apps, and cancel culture, those of us who still remember are just realizing how messed up some of the stuff that happened really was, especially when it comes to celebrities!

People have been taking a hard look at the way society treated celebrities in the 2000s.

One person who has come under repeated fire is David Letterman, who was criticized for his interview with Lindsay Lohan at the height of her controversial career as well as for behaving in a manner many found creepy with Jennifer Aniston.

People have also pointed out that his interview with Paris Hilton in 2007 was similarly mean-spirited.

At that time, Paris had recently finished serving a 22 day sentence after violating her DUI probation. In a new podcast, Paris and her sister Nicky discussed how David had initially promised not to bring the subject up, but did so anyway, and continued to push even though Paris was uncomfortable.

"You're making me sad that I came. You're hurting my feelings," Paris told David at the time.

"I felt it was a safe place because I had been going on Letterman for so many years," Paris told Nicky.

"I thought he would keep his word on this and he was wrong. There was not supposed to be one question and he kept pushing me and pushing me. I was just getting so uncomfortable and upset," Paris explained.

Paris went on to say she thought he was trying to humiliate her.

"Nicky, you were backstage, I remember talking to you after and being up there, it was like he was purposely trying to humiliate me and during commercial breaks I would look at him like, please stop doing this, you promised me you wouldn't talk about this and that's the only reason I agreed to come on the show," Paris said.

"It was very cruel and very mean," Paris said.

"After it ended I looked at him and said I am never coming on this show again, that crossed the line. I didn't tell him off because I'm not that type of person, but I got angry and he was apologizing and sent a case of Chateau Lafite Rothschild wine to our house," Paris went on.

Paris explained when she went home she was "in tears, crying and shaking."

Eventually, however, Paris forgave David. "Finally, I said okay I'll come back on your show. I said okay and I forgave him," she said.

"He knew not to do that again," she added. "I think he felt bad, I heard a lot of people were getting angry they saw that, even back then."

"I'm so happy that it's different today," Paris finished.

We are too! Nobody deserves to be publicly ridiculed for a mistake or bad decision — unless they are a talk show host who seemed to repeatedly embarrass their guests! We might make a bit of an exception there.
