Naomi Campbell Says She Was Turned Away From An Event Because Of The Color Of Her Skin

Just because she's a supermodel and an icon doesn't mean that Naomi Campbell doesn't experience racism.

In an interview with Paris Match, the 49-year-old just revealed that she was turned away from an event at Cannes this past spring.

Naomi Campbell is so much more than just a supermodel.

Sure, she's gorgeous and can slay a runway like it's no one's business.

But she's also a public figure that the world is invested in.

While her controversial past certainly shed a spotlight on the model, there's so much more to her that we don't know.

During a recent interview with "Paris Match," the supermodel opened up on some of these things.

Like how she's currently working on a show for Amazon, with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn called Making the Cut.

Or her feelings on the substance abuse issues that led to a rehab stint in 2010.

"I had to take stock of my life... I did it," she told the site.

"The detox treatment program has been very effective and I am proud of it."

While there, she also learned to conquer her anger.

If you remember, the supermodel has always been infamously known for throwing a cell phone at her maid and assistant.

"Anger is a feeling that comes from within, caused by a particular emotion."

"We all have that in us."

When asked if the 49-year-old missed being a mother, Naomi's reaction might surprise you.

"No. By the way, who said I would not be a mother someday?”

Ooo, there's hope!

She also revealed the racial profiling the supermodel endured during a spring visit to the south of France.

"I was invited to participate in an event in a hotel whose name I will not mention," she told Paris Match.

"They did not want to let my friend and I in because of the color of my skin."

"The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was full. But he let other people pass."

Sadly, this isn't the first time that she — or other black models — have faced racism.

When speaking to the BBC in April, she opened up about the racism she experienced from an Asian county.

The British supermodel was "baffled" when she was rejected from a campaign due to the color of her skin.

So not okay.

In a separate interview with "British Vogue", she said that what happened was a reality check.

"I never believe in the hype, so it just kept things in perspective for me."

"Now I would like to know that models [of colour] get the same opportunities and fees in advertising."

This icon is fighting hard for change since she didn't have much acceptance or diversity in modeling when she first began her career.

"I have always wanted people to be treated fairly."

"Do not believe that it goes without saying. The challenge is permanent."

Naomi will continue to fight for what's right.

As she told Paris Match, "It is for these kinds of shocking moments that I will continue to express myself and make myself heard.”
