Steve Irwin Met His Wife The Exact Same Way His Daughter Met Her Husband

Steve Irwin left one of the greatest legacies imaginable for his children to live up to, and so far, they've been doing a fantastic job. His son, Robert, and his daughter, Bindi, have both taken up the wildlife expert mantle and have dedicated themselves to educating and protecting animals just like their father.

It turns out that Bindi has followed in her father's footsteps in more ways than one.

And we're totally obsessed with it.

In 2019, Bindi got engaged to her long time boyfriend, Chandler.

She shared these beautiful photos, shot by her brother, on her Instagram page, adding that, "On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life."

The way they met must have seemed familiar to Bindi's mother, Terri.

Bindi told Australian Women's Weekly that she met Chandler while giving a tour at the Australia Zoo in Queensland.

There was an immediate connection, and after Chandler went back to America, he wrote to Bindi's mother asking for her permission to see Bindi again.

WOW, I'm crying!

Terri and Steve met the exact same way.

Terri told People that she met Steve while he was giving a tour at the same zoo.

It was the same story of instant connection.

"Right away we were talking about wildlife, and our passions in life and I kept thinking, ‘I wonder if this guy’s married,’” she told the magazine.

Terri recalled a funny moment from the day they met, “He said to me, ‘Would you like to meet my girlfriend, Sue?’ I tried to be cool about it, but I was devastated."

"Then he goes, ‘Hey Sue, Suey, come here.’ And his little dog came running around the corner. ‘This is my girlfriend, Sue,’ he said. I thought, ‘Yes!’"

Terri left to go back to Oregon and hoped she'd hear from Steve again.

“He said, ‘We’ll have to keep in touch,’ but then a week went by and he hadn’t called, and two and three,” she recalled. “I thought maybe I misunderstood what I thought the connection was.”

Finally, after a month of waiting, Terry got a call from Steve that he was coming to Oregon to visit her.

The rest was history.

Both Bindi and Steve gave a tour to an American visitor that they would end up falling in love with.

“It’s funny how that works,” Bindi told Australian Women's Weekly about the coincidence.

She also added that, in terms of her father's approval, "Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We all think dad would have loved Chandler."

We think so too, Bindi.
