We All Missed The Tribute To Princess Diana In Archie's Christening Photos

With the arrival of the newest royal baby comes lots of little royal family Easter eggs.

Archie's christening was yet another opportunity for the family to subtly pay tribute to its past, and this time it's a little emotional, y'all.

The royal family loves to reference itself.

For example: during 2019's Trooping the Colour, Kate and William dressed Princes Louis and George in hand-me-downs from William and Harry.

They both wore those outfits to Trooping the Colour events they attended with Prince Charles and Princess Diana in the 1980s!

Meghan honored Diana, too.

One of the first pictures taken of Archie showed up on Meghan and Harry's Instagram.

For Mother's Day, Meghan posted this picture of her holding Archie's feet. In the background is forget-me-nots, rumored to be Diana's favorite flower.

Which brings us to Archie's christening.

Like much of the pregnancy and birth of Archie, Meghan and Harry chose to keep details of the christening private.

Considering the hounding they've gotten by the media, I don't blame them at all.

(Seriously, have you seen how people talk about her?)

At one point, Meghan's most vicious detractors were speculating that her pregnancy wasn't even real.

Others criticized her for the way she held her baby bump.

I really wish I was joking.

Back to the ceremony.

They decided to hold it at Windsor Castle's private chapel.

According to Royal Commentator Omid Scobie, Windsor Castle's Green Drawing Room was the setting for Harry and Meghan's wedding photos.

During the christening, it served as the place for a family picture!

The robe Archie wore was very special.

The gown was a replica of the Royal Christening Robe. The original robe was commissioned in 1841 by Queen Victoria for her first daughter, Princess Victoria.

I want to squeeze those little cheeks!

His dad was christened in the original.

Both William and Harry were christened in the original robe. Queen Elizabeth had it retired in 2004 after a solid 163 years of use, and a replica was made.

Man, I'm lucky if my clothes last more than a year.

Since then, the new royal babies have worn the new robe.

Archie joins his cousins Louis, George, and Charlotte in wearing the robe.

As for everyone else? According to Scobie, Kate Middleton wore Stella McCartney, while Meghan went for Dior. Meghan notably wore white.

Many of the royal family were in attendance!

Notably, two important women stood behind Meghan (besides her lovely mother, Doria Ragland): Lady Jane Fellowes, and Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

They are the sisters of the late Princess Diana, and (of course) aunts to Harry and William.

Royal watchers were thrilled to see them included.

Some even shared tidbits they knew about the relationship both aunts have with Harry.

Little reminders of the role Princess Diana continues to play in the royal family are always welcome!

Kate also chose to honor Diana at the christening.

As you saw above, Princess Diana sported a pair pearl earrings to Harry's christening pictures.

Well, if you take a close look at Kate, you can see that she is wearing those same earrings! Wholesome.

Well, I think it's wholesome.

Twitter

Royal commenters/people with way too much time on their hands had some opinions on this tribute.

I can't imagine getting mad at someone for wearing a pair of earrings on the exact occasion that would call for it.

How dare she!

How dare she wear a pair of earrings that invoke the memory of Diana at the christening of what would have been her grandson?

That would just be so silly, guys.

But wait...

Twitter

So which is it, that Kate is upstaging Meghan by wearing Princess Diana's earrings, or that Kate is doing Diana proud by refusing to let Meghan wear them?

They're earrings. Who cares?

Anyway, so baby Archie.

May he never know how frickin' weird his mom and aunt's "fans" are.

Seriously, some of these conspiracy theories should be their own YouTube series.

Oh god. That's probably already a thing, isn't it.

Anyway, look at the cute baby!
