HBO's 'Chernobyl' Actually Boosted Tourism In The Disturbing Area

Chernobyl took over the world the moment it aired.

The show is political, horrific, and dark. That is everything that people love all in one neat package.

'Chernobyl' is about the nuclear disaster.

HBO

It was a completely disastrous event in Russia that ended the lives of many.

It was truly heartbreaking.

The show managed to capture everything brilliantly.

It was praised for its perfect retelling, even in the moments where it gets very graphic.

However, it doesn't follow the story perfectly.

HBO

But no retelling ever can, really.

They changed a few things to fit the show, but other than that, it's the same.

And now, in good fan fashion, people are traveling to the spot.

I mean, we had to have seen this coming, right?

But it works out for the Russia tourism economy.

The episodes definitely boosted people's interest.

HBO

The five episodes were just enough to allow people to want more.

And so they're getting what they want!

People are now visiting the area.

Chernobylwel

And they're visiting it a lot.

In fact, tourism at Chernobyl has risen by 40 percent! That's pretty insane!

People are including it in their summer plans.

Chernobylwel

It's not exactly a fun place to visit in the summertime, but if it's what you're interested in, then good enough.

So? When are you planning your trip to Russia?

Chernobylwel

Would you ever visit Chernobyl? I don't know if I could handle it.
