10+ Things You Definitely Missed In ‘John Wick: Parabellum’

jake.bean 3 Jun 2019

One of the best film series in the last decade got it's third installment recently, and I get to talk about it! This is why I love this work so much.

1. The Doctor.

Turns out Lawrence Fishburne wasn't the only Matrix alumni in the John Wick series.

Minutes before John Wick is given excommunicado status, he visits a doctor played by Randall Duk Kim. Randall also played "The Keymaker" in The Matrix Reloaded.

2. The Matrix continues...

Stunt performer Tiger Hu Chen plays a small role in the third John Wick film.

He was on the fight choreography team during The Matrix and is also Keanu Reeves' best friend and fighting master.

3. But these connections make sense...

Because director Chad Stahelski was a stunt double for Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix film, and then worked as stunt coordinator for the next couple.

So yeah, it's just one big Matrix family.

4. The Basketball player.

Lionsgate

During the library scene, which obviously (it being a John Wick movie) has a big fight in it, John Wick squares off against a big, big man.

And I'm talking pretty big.

5. It's because...

Lionsgate

This guy is big in real life, he's seven feet tall.

He's played by Philadelphia 76ers center Boban Marjanovic. Just so you know, he's a lot better at basketball than he is at not being killed by John Wick.

6. The other bounties.

Lionsgate

If you check out the chalkboard as John Wick's name and bounty are going up, you'll see other lesser assassins who are being hunted for.

Why hunt for John Wick when you could pick up a cool 2 Mil off of... Lebedev.

7. John Wick Deaths.

Lionsgate

If there's one thing that's always present in John Wick movies, it's dying.

Mostly at the hands of John Wick himself, but hey, the party isn't always exclusive to him.

8. Deaths by gun:

Go ahead folks, try to guess how many people were killed by gunshots in this movie. If you've seen it and are good at counting, maybe you know. Ready to hear the answer?

124 died of gunshots alone.

9. Deaths By Knife/Sword:

Lionsgate

This film really ups the ante for knife deaths.

In John Wick 2, there were only, well, 2 knife deaths (how fitting). However, in John Wick 3, there are as many as 32.

10. Horse Kills:

Lionsgate

What would a John Wick movie be without some wacky ways for bad guys to die?

Well, in this movie, it's the horses that are going to jail. They kill at least 3 people, through fatal kicks and dragging.

11. However, like I said, it wasn't all John Wick.

Lionsgate

Halle Berry's character Sophia does a lot of damage in this movie too.

It's estimated that she does at least a quarter to a half of all the carnage in the movie if you count the dog kills as her own.

12. Parabellum.

Lionsgate

Once we saw the subtitle for this movie, we all immediately went to Google to find out what it meant.

Turns out, it references the movie itself in two ways.

13. First, the Latin Phrase.

Lionsgate

Apparently, it comes from a phrase in Latin that means "if you want peace, prepare for war".

John Wick's journey is pretty much exactly exemplified by this very phrase.

14. It also stands for...

Lionsgate

The name of a handgun cartridge. Which is something you see fairly rarely throughout these movies, so who knows why they added in that reference.

He said, sarcastically.

15. Real Time Vs. Movie Time.

Lionsgate

Last but not least, we should discuss that even though we had to wait a whole two years for the third movie, it actually takes place only an hour after the second one ended.
