Coca-Cola’s ‘New Coke’ Is Coming Back From The ‘80s In Honor Of ‘Stranger Things’

The Netflix original series Stranger Things takes place during the 80's, and it does a really excellent job of helping us relive the decade of perm-fried hair, Ghostbusters, and the unforgettable sound of synthesizer music.

Now, in honor of the show's upcoming third season, Coca-Cola has decided to up the nostalgia game by reintroducing 'New Coke' to the world, Food & Wine reported.

Don't be ashamed if you've never heard of 'New Coke' before.

It didn't exactly stick around for very long.

Coca-Cola changed their formula, promising companies a newer, better-tasting Coke, much like Pepsi had done just a few years before.

So, their hearts were in the right place, at least.

'New Coke' was like one of those ideas that seemed really great but turned out to be a bit of a flop.

In the '80s, this new brand was introduced to the world in an attempt to shake up the market. However, the company quickly learned a very valuable lesson: don't fix what isn't broken.

People rejected 'New Coke' and wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.

The company received 7,000 phone calls of protest from people demanding to know why Coca-Cola had changed something no one wanted to see changed.

Suffice it to say, the company was quick to discontinue the product, and 'New Coke' was no more. Until now, that is.

This summer, a brand new generation will get to try 'New Coke' for themselves.

In an official partnership between Coca-Cola and Stranger Things, cans of 'New Coke' will returning for a limited time only and will only be available online. So, it won't be exactly like how it was in the '80s, but close enough.

Beginning on May 23, 12-ounce cans of 'New Coke' will be available for customers online.

Purchases made on CokeStore.com/1985 will have 'New Coke' offered up as well as a gift.

If that's not enough of a Coke and 'Stranger Things' mashup for you, don't worry, Coke has you covered.

This summer you can also get your hands on limited-edition Stranger Things-themed Coke and Coke Zero Sugar bottles, available on select days at World Of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, and the Coca-Cola Store in Las Vegas during the week of June 3.

Don't worry if you can't make it out to either of these places.

For those of us who look for our Coke products on grocery shelves, the company is releasing 16-ounce cans of Coke with Stranger Things on the logo, and Coke Zero Sugar cans inspired by The Upside-Down.

The new season of Stranger Things hits Netflix on July 4.
