Amy Schumer's First Comedy Show Since Giving Birth Two Weeks Ago Has Stirred Up Controversy

Amy Schumer returned to the stage for the first time since becoming a mom. After posting a photo from her set on Instagram, many people commented, shaming her for returning to work so early. Sigh.

For many working moms, choosing when to go back to work is a very difficult and personal choice, and one that they get shamed for either way.

Here's what people had to say about Amy's performance.

By now, you probably now that Amy Schumer is one of the funniest ladies on the planet.

She has a number of hilarious stand-up specials on Netflix, her show, Inside Amy Schumer, and very funny autobiography.

Well now this talented and funny woman can add another job to her list: Mom!

That's right, Amy became a mom to a baby boy on May 5, 2019. She and her husband named their little guy Gene Attell Fischer. Congrats!

Since becoming a mom, Amy's sense of humor is still going strong.

She posted this photo from her hospital bathroom (yes, she's sitting on the toilet) and captioned it, "Milf alert 1 o'clock". LOL!

She also shared this very real "OOTD" post.

When you're a new mom, breast pumps and nursing bras are a part of your regular wardrobe, so Amy nailed it with this one.

On May 20, just two weeks after giving birth, Amy performed her first set at The Comedy Cellar since becoming a mom.

I'm sure her set killed and that she has a lot of new material to work with since becoming a mom. However, some were not happy to see Amy performing so soon after having her baby.

Many praised Amy for taking the stage again so soon after giving birth.

Moms are warriors and Amy proved that by performing so soon. Not all the comments on her Instagram were so positive though.

A lot of people thought she had returned to work way too soon.

While the comments were meant to promote self-care, some of them bordered on mom-shaming.

Would I have been able to perform stand-up two weeks after giving birth? No, but that doesn't mean we should tell Amy she can't either.

Others worried that Amy wasn't being given a proper maternity leave.

Six weeks is the standard maternity leave for many jobs in the United States and is also when a doctor will perform a postpartum exam to ensure everything is healing correctly.

At this point, we don't know whether Amy returned to the stage because she wanted to, or if she had to because of her contract.

Whether it was Amy's choice to return so soon or not, a lot of people couldn't get over how quickly this had happened.

Since we don't know all the details, we just have to assume that Amy is doing what is best for her and her family.

At the end of the day, calling her out on social media won't change her situation, so let's just let her live, okay?
