Starbucks' New Pride Month Reusable Cups Have Us Feeling The Love

June is Pride Month and as May fades into its later half, brands are releasing this year's crop of rainbow, love-themed products.

I'm torn about this, because on one hand most of the companies are profiting off the sales, but on the other hand, it means they are actually considering the LGBTQIA+ community to be a thriving market worth catering to.

So when it comes to Pride products, I set myself a couple of ground rules.

First, I won't buy a Pride item with an obvious brand tie-in. So no big logo on the front that just happens to be in Pride colors.

Second, the company has to have shown support for the LGBTQIA+ community outside of the Pride event itself.

Now, no company is perfect. Mistakes happen, but if they show a willingness to learn from it, I take it as a good sign.

Thankfully, Starbucks' new Pride-themed reusable cups tick both of those boxes.

Again, Starbucks isn't perfect. At best, it's a problematic fave for me, what with incidents like the false arrests of Donte Robinson and Rashon Nelson from a Philadelphia store still making waves.

But in terms of LGBTQIA+ issues, Starbucks has been a longtime ally.

In 2018, Starbucks was ranked as a top employer for LGBTQIA+ workplace equality.

They scored a perfect 100 on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which rates companies on their policies and procedures that relate to LGBTQIA+ issues.

So sure, Starbucks may not be perfect, but when it comes to Pride, they rank among the good guys.

Plus, these Pride cups are just freaking awesome.

Maybe the rainbow just speaks to my queer little heart — and my '90s teenage self — but even if it wasn't Pride-related, I'd want one of these.

The limited edition cups are hitting shelves in the run-up to Pride Month and will probably sell-out fast.

At only $16.95, they're a steal, so be sure to hit up your local Starbucks locations to see if they've got them in stock yet.
