Moms Are Doing Their Makeup Before Giving Birth

Before giving birth, many moms take birth or Lamaze classes to get ready.

Usually, these classes involve learning breathing techniques, but some moms are adding their own coping techniques by doing full beauty tutorials in between contractions.

For professional beauty vloggers and influencers, this isn't anything new, but even moms who aren't Insta-famous have started jumping on this trend. Take a look at why these moms are giving themselves "birth makeovers."

In the age of beauty bloggers and Instagram influencers, many women are choosing to give birth with a full face of makeup.

Beauty blogger Lee Ann Jarrell shared these photos with fans of her labor beauty tutorial. "Contractions? Highlight that b****," she said in the caption.

Beauty blogger Alaha Majid was one of the first to go viral because of the photos she shared of her labor and delivery makeup routine.

She said that she would apply her makeup in between contractions and only packed her favorite products in her hospital bag.

When the contractions got too strong for Alaha, her husband took over.

What an awesome birth partner!

Also, contouring your face helps with contractions. It's true, I swear!

Beauty vlogger Alexis Jayda recorded her makeup tutorial when she was in labor.

You better believe she packed her beauty blender in her hospital bag. Every woman has her own method for getting through labor and for some, that means filming a makeup tutorial.

Clearly, it was worth it.

When her daughter was born, Alexis looked gorgeous! Seriously, what mascara did she use? If it was strong enough to withstand giving birth, it seems like a good investment.

For this mom, having her makeup done actually helped her labor.

When this mom's sister-in-law began doing her makeup, the mom was able to relax and it actually helped her dilate faster. See? Doing your makeup actually does help!

Even though applying makeup during labor can be helpful for some, there are critics of this new trend.

Some online commenters have criticized these women, saying that they should be focusing on the baby and not how they look. On the whole, these critics are few and far between.

If anything, a lot of moms have a sense of humor when it comes to this trend.

Labor looks different for every mom, and in many cases, it's not nearly this glamorous. I agree with this Instagram user's "potato" comparison from my own experience.

It's true that for many moms, makeup was the last thing on their mind during labor.

I can honestly say I have one photo of myself from the labor and delivery room and it will never see the light of day on Instagram.

However, these viral photos have also prompted some moms to share their own experiences.

A lot of moms swear that doing their makeup helped distract them from any discomfort. If it works, it works!

The hospital staff might give you a look or two, but a mom's gotta do what's best for her.

People say that when you look good, you feel good, so maybe this logic applies to the birth process as well.

Make sure you invest in waterproof makeup or long-lasting formulas if you plan on doing your own makeup during labor.

"Delivery room chronicles, put all this makeup on just to cry 75% of it off lol..." said Instagram user @beautybytsharae.

Giving birth is an emotional experience, so be prepared for some tears!

You can also enlist family members to help you.

This mom's sister gave her a pre-birth makeover. What a great sister and birth supporter! I think every mom needs to be pampered a little bit before welcoming their bundle of joy.

Whether you agree with this trend or not, you can't argue with these photos.

I mean, the advantage of doing your makeup is that those first photos with your little one look amazing!

What do you think of this trend? I say, whatever helps moms feel better during labor and delivery seems like a good idea to me.
