Jill Duggar Attacked For Not Being Pro-Life After Killing Bee In Instagram Pic

By now, many of us have seen how quickly an internet discussion can get ugly, but that doesn't make it any easier to figure out how some of them even started down that road to darkness.

Indeed, it's hard to know whether to feel saddened or oddly amused when an adorable YouTube video of small animals frolicking somehow inspires the comment section to hotly debate racism.

Although the argument we're discussing today went to an extreme place about as quickly, at least we have some idea as to how it got there.

Over the weekend, Jill Michelle Dillard (née Duggar) posted an Instagram photo of the aftermath of a mini-bug invasion.

Her caption started with, "No, just no! . I spent several minutes yesterday trying to kill a wasp that come into the house and in the meantime also killed a bee, then killed ANOTHER wasp today!"

She went on to describe how her son, Israel, protected his brother, Sam, from the bugs and how she wished her husband had been there to kill them.

She ended her post by saying, "I HATE flying critters!!! Actually, I hate almost all bugs, but especially those that can actually do some harm...or look like they could!!

Who else hates these things with a vengeance?!"

If the wasps were her only quarry that day, she probably would've found almost unanimous agreement.

Most people really hate wasps and since they don't sacrifice themselves by stinging us, it makes them seem much more relentless and sadistic.

Whether their bad reputation is deserved or not, that's how we see them.

However, admitting to killing a bee is a much riskier proposition than it used to be.

As NBC News reported, a growing number of people are taking the scientific community's concern about the decline of bee populations seriously.

Not in the least because their work to pollinate crops is responsible for a staggering amount of the world's food supply.

However, in their anger, some took their disapproval at Dillard's bee kill to a very personal place.

Essentially, they questioned how true she was to her pro-life beliefs if she sees nothing wrong with killing bugs, and especially bees.

These comments come at a time when not only are the health of bee populations a matter of grave concern, but also the legal fortitude of American abortion rights.

Although Snopes confirmed that it didn't get past the committee stage, a recent bill that proposed the death penalty for women who get abortions in Texas was the latest example of increasingly strict abortion laws considered at state legislatures.

At the same time, others pointed out that it's not necessarily fair or productive to aim those anxieties at one woman who swatted some bugs.

And many of us would definitely have to admit that we've killed many bugs that found their way into our homes regardless of how much their species benefits our world.

However, it wasn't long before the comments on this post spiraled into a debate on abortion in general.

From there, the discussion not only stopped having anything to do with Dillard or her dead bugs, but featured both sides of the debate very passionately arguing their case, but apparently convincing each other of nothing.
