Jessica Simpson's Instagram Post About Pumping Breast Milk Has Sparked Controversy

Thanks to social media, more moms are getting real when it comes to sharing all aspects of postpartum life online. It's no different for celebs, either.

Recently, new mom Jessica Simpson posted a photo of pumped breast milk in a bottle. While many praised her the photo, some were not happy, leading to a heated debate about the post.

Take a look at why some people were upset.

Jessica Simpson is no stranger when it comes to sharing everything with her fans.

I mean, this woman did document her first marriage on a reality TV show. Sigh, I miss Newlyweds and it brought us so many great Jessica-isms.

When it came to her third pregnancy, things were no different.

Jessica shared updates with her fans on social media on everything from her swollen feet to how she broke her toilet by leaning on it. Ouch!

And on March 19, 2019, Jessica shared this beautiful announcement that her baby girl had arrived safely.

Her daughter is named Birdie Mae. How perfect for a spring babe!

Jessica got real about postpartum life when she shared this very relatable photo of pumped breast milk.

She captioned the photo, "This is what success feels like." If you've ever used a breast pump, then you know that getting 5 oz in a pump session is goals.

Many other celeb moms commented with their support and praise for Jess' photo.

Moms have to support fellow moms, am I right? They call it a "Mom Tribe" for a reason.

However, there was some backlash to the post.

We know that breastfeeding and pumping milk is difficult and doesn't work out for each mom. Some jokingly commented that they were jealous with Jess' ability to pump so much.

Some believed that the post enforced formula-shaming.

Many women who can't or choose not to breastfeed thought the post further shamed moms who use formula.

Some even went as far as to accuse Jessica of simply posting to prove that she was breastfeeding.

It's true that more breastfeeding moms are sharing their journeys on social media, but I don't think this photo was some sort of elaborate hoax.

Others came to Jessica's defence and said that the photo wasn't meant to shame anyone.

The post wasn't trying to say that breastfeeding is better than forumla feeding. Jess was just sharing a cheeky postpartum update with her fans.

At the end of the day, however you feed your baby is what's best.

Breast milk or formula, it doesn't matter. It's a decision that is personal to each family and should be respected either way.
