Lindsay Lohan Found Out She Wasn't Cast In 'The Little Mermaid' And Had The Best Response

It's a whole new world of movies...kind of.

With Disney continually making live-action versions of their most popular animated films, it's easy to start imagining which of our favorite actors could portray those beloved characters.

Lindsay Lohan, however, did more than imagine. She wanted to be Ariel. So, what happened?

Disney is bringing The Little Mermaid back

And they're keeping the details under lock and key.

The film is slated for release in 2020, and Disney is usually pretty good about putting films out on schedule.

However, with the movie coming out next year? Girl, where are the details.

Production is going to start soon

What we do know is that filming is rumored to be confirmed for both Puerto Rico, as well as South Africa.

The original animated movie is supposed to take place off the coast of Denmark, so I guess they're just switching it all up!

The music will be done by legends

Returning to The Little Mermaid is the animated film's original composer, Alan Menken. He also scored Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tangled, Hercules, and Pocahontas.

He has a few Oscars to show for it, too.

It will be directed by Rob Marshall

Rob Marshall boasts an impressive resumé.

He was nominated for an Oscar for his direction of Chicago. He also brought Into the Woods and Nine from Broadway to he big screen.

And a familiar face to Disney fans

Entertainment Weekly

Joining him is Disney veteran, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

You know from that time he wrote a little show called Hamilton, songs for Moana, and co-starred in Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt.

The writer is also awesome

Jane Goldman is penning the script. Get. Hyped.

She co-wrote Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, X-Men: First Class... I could go on.

She also wrote The Woman In Black, which imo was an underrated movie.

Basically, she kicks ass at adapting original material in fun and fresh ways!

And now, to our regularly scheduled story

YouTube | Entertainment Tonight

Blah, blah, blah, you say. Get to the casting! Well, I have bad news for you: no one has been announced.

What I can tell you is that Lindsay Lohan mounted a small campaign to be cast as Ariel.

Lindsay pitched herself for the role

Instagram | @lindsaylohan

She posted this picture of Ariel and Ursula to her Instagram story.

In it, she says that Ariel is her dream role and that she would want her former A Prairie Home Companion co-star, Meryl Streep, to play Ursula.

So Lindsay was a little confused when Ariel was "announced"

Instagram | @thedisneyprincesses

Instagram account @thedisneyprincesses announced that Lea Michele had been cast as Ariel.

Lindsay saw the post, and left a simple, succinct comment: "Huh?"

After all, she really wanted to be Ariel, right?

She had things mixed up

Vanity Fair

That Instagram account clearly said that Lea Michele would be portraying Ariel...at the Hollywood Bowl.

Disney is putting on a live performance of the film, which will also star Harvey Fierstein as Ursula (genius), Peter Gallagher as King Triton, Ken Page as Sebastian, Leo Gallo as Prince Eric, and Cheech Marin as the Chef.

So...not the movie

Pretty sure a bigger deal would have been made if the actual film had cast their Ariel.

Regardless, 'ol Linds believed it.

Just to clear things up: Disney has not cast their Ariel yet!

Sorry, Lindsay!

Honestly, I'm sure this sort of thing happens...well, never. But that's okay!

Lindsay is currently busy running Lohan Beach House and starring in a MTV reality show about it, so I think she'll be just fine.

There are a few actors actually in the running for Ariel

Instagram | @zendaya

The favored front-runner (and current favorite) is Zendaya!

Zendaya is no stranger to working with Disney — it's where she got her start! She starred in the series Shake It Up for three years, and then K.C. Undercover for another three.

But check out those Ursula rumors though...

Instagram | @ladygaga

Imagine this: Zendaya playing Ariel, opposite...frickin' Lady Gaga as Ursula.

Lady. Gaga.

She's reportedly at the top of Disney's wish list, and I think we can all see why. Plus, she would slay at "Poor Unfortunate Souls."

Until we know any real facts, Disney has us in the dark

Whether it's Zendaya or Lindsay, we're no closer to knowing to who will play Ariel.

Who would you cast? I'm excited if it's Zendaya, tbh, just because I want to see her act across from Lady Gaga!
