Miley Cyrus Says 'A Lot of Drugs' Was The Reason 'Hannah Montana' Ended

It feels like just yesterday I was singing along to Hannah Montana's "If We Were A Movie", wishing I had a double life as a pop star.

Oh wait, that actually was yesterday.

Nonetheless, the days of Hannah Montana have been long gone, and Miley Cyrus is very over it.

Last week, Miley appeared as a guest judge on "RuPaul's Drag Race."

The contestants had to lip sync to Hannah Montana's most famous track, “Best of Both Worlds.”

Side note: I know I'm not a contestant on the show, but I would have killed that challenge.

I lip sync to old pop songs on a regular basis. It's one of the only things I'm truly good at.

I digress!

Before the performances, RuPaul asked Miley what happened to Hannah Montana? Where'd she go?

“Hey, whatever happened to her?”

We all assumed Miley's answer would be along the lines of "I outgrew that part of my life" or something along those lines.

Instead she jokingly said "A lot of drugs."

Although she meant it in a totally playful, lighthearted way, she has been open in the past about her love of marijuana. So there probably was some truth to that statement.

Her comment might have tainted Hannah Montana's innocence, and my childhood forever.

But obviously, she was just kidding and simply poking fun at herself for all the weed she's smoked.

In 2017, Miley revealed to Billboard that she was “evolving” and had given up all drugs and alcohol.

“I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I’ve ever [gone without it],” she said, adding “I’m not doing drugs, I’m not drinking, I’m completely clean right now! That was just something that I wanted to do.”

Miley said that she had outgrown the "Dead Petz" phase of her life.

Dead Petz refers to a very psychedelic album she released in 2015, that featured some very obscure, drug-induced lyrics.

That was also around the same time that she rekindled her romance with her now-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

And we are so very glad that happened.

Miley's Dead Petz phase was pretty cool, but not nearly as awesome as her getting hitched to Liam.

However, she has recently revealed that her mom has gotten her back into smoking weed.

“My mom got me back on it,” she said in an interview.

“When I’m just working, I don’t think I function at my highest, most intelligent, most being-able-to-be-as-aware-and- as-present, so I don’t smoke when I work.”

Also, how can we forget about Miley's epic SNL monologue?

"I'm only 20 years old, I need some freedom to grow up and make mistakes," she said. "And no matter what happens, I promise I'll always be true to Miley Cyrus."

She didn't feel quite as warm and fuzzy about her fictional Disney character, "Hannah Montana."

"There are a few subjects I'm not going to get into tonight: I'm not going to do Hannah Montana, but I can give you an update. She was murdered." she said.

So, one thing is clear: Miley wants to cut ties with "Hannah Montana" once and for all.

I don't know if we'll ever be able to completely move on from Hannah Montana. She was such a big part of our childhoods. It just wouldn't feel right.

But understandably, Miley is tired of it.

She was a good sport about it on "RuPaul's Drag Race" though.

She made the episode one to remember, that's for sure. We'd love it if she could be a judge on the show on a more permanent basis.

She even dressed in drag, transforming herself into "Barry Johnson."

AKA "BJ."

She wore a black t-shirt, hoodie, and ball-cap. But what really completed the look was the fake beard!

Based on her Instagram posts, it looks like she had an absolute blast.

She embraced all the Hannah Montana references, and turned the episode into one of their greatest ones yet.

In her most recent interview with Elle, Miley opened up even more about how she knew she was done with her Hannah Montana role.

First, she explained how her role on "Black Mirror" as "Ashley O" reflected her "Hannah Montana" experience perfectly.

The episode was totally insane.

Miley explained that when she read the script, she felt compelled to accept the role because it mirrored (hehe) her real life perfectly.

"The character is me. They twisted it up the way they always do, but the industry is already pretty dark."

"And at times, I’ve definitely felt like Ashley O," Miley added.

She also reflected on growing up but being forced to still play Hannah.

"I did once I was 18 because it felt ridiculous," she said.

"The minute I had sex, I was kind of like, I can’t put the [expletive] wig on again. It got weird."

WOaaaaaahhhhh! Girl! YAS!

"I was grown up," she added.

To explain how she felt, she shared this lil' story that's bound to ruin your day— "One time I went backstage at Disneyland, and Peter Pan was smoking a cigarette," she said.

"And I was like, 'That’s me. That’s the kind of dreams I’m crushing.'"

Okay, traumatizing.

I will personally never say goodbye to "Hannah Montana."

No amount of drugs could ever erase Hannah's essence. She's forever in our hearts. Sorry not sorry, Miley!
