Bradley Cooper's Ex-Wife Jennifer Esposito Slams Critics After She Posts Reaction To Lady Gaga Oscar Performance

Andrew Roberts 27 Feb 2019

The twisting and turning story surrounding Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's performance at the Oscars continues to march on. This time, we're getting the involvement of exes from both parties and they're both being treated far different in the public sphere.

The Performance

The performance itself continues to grab attention online, especially with the official release of the performance on YouTube for all to relive. Much has been talked about the reaction at the awards itself, the standing ovations, and the "connection" both seemed to have on stage.

Instant Chemistry

As E! News outlines, the pair met in 2016 before filming started on the film and Cooper claimed their connection was instant:

"She came down the stairs and we went out to her patio and I saw her eyes, and honestly, it clicked..."

Late Night Fodder

The performance has gone through the cycle, with Twitter and social media lining up to react first. Then soon after that, late-night television got a chance to make their jokes.

Jimmy Kimmel stood out by saying the pair had "so much sexual chemistry" on stage that his wife started to ovulate.

That likely ruins the joke, but watch the video for the proper delivery!

The Speculation Begins

With the performance, many started to speculate about Cooper and Gaga. And it has led to reports each day, including this recent slice of news regarding Irina Shayk -- Cooper's current partner -- UNFOLLOWING Gaga on social media.

It would be a "gasp" sort of moment, but there is no truth behind it. It's speculation.

David Spade On Instagram

It is how we ended up focusing on a single post by David Spade on Instagram more than it needed to be. It wasn't Spade's post that made the most waves, but a comment on the post.

Jennifer Esposito's Comment

Giphy

That's because the comment came from Bradley Cooper's ex, Jennifer Esposito. The pair were married for a few months after December 2006 before she filed for divorce. She described Cooper in her book -- unnamed, of course -- as "funny, smart, cocky, arrogant and a master manipulator.”

Esposito did leave a comment on Spade's post, responding with a "ha" to his caption under the photo.

Thanks to her comments in the past, many took this as "shade" or some sort of criticism, which is trouble in the current social media age. It certainly led to many comments, many reports, and a lot of speculation too -- all still visible in Spade's post.

Forced To Respond

After a swarm of comments came in following her comment, Esposito posted a response to her Instagram addressing the response and her initial comment:

“I didn’t watch the Oscars. I don’t know what went on. I don’t care what went on,” she fired back. “I commented on something that I thought was funny, and someone being bold enough to say what he said. And I laughed. And to find that people are making judgment calls about me or them or the people that the comment was about is really psychotic.”

Will that be enough for some folks? Probably not. At least not right now.

Gaga's Ex Tossing Shade Too

A different reaction came for Taylor Kinney, star of Chicago Fire and former Gaga partner. The photo he posted here has little to do with Cooper or his former lover, but a comment on the post stands out because he ended up liking it:

“Stoked you got away from Gaga. #Hollyweird.”

As Fox News points out, this is enough for many to consider it "shade," but the reaction is nowhere near the same as the one for Esposito.

'Happy Ending'

One of the biggest reasons for the rabid response online is captured here in this Billboard headline. Calling it a "happy ending" and putting a cap on the love story that many saw on the big screen has helped to breed this fantasy.

If it's for real, it's for real. But for now, they are not together and it just seems to be some sort of manufactured push to make it happen. Will it happen? We'll just have to see.
