14+ Facts About 'The Big Bang Theory' That We Genuinely Didn't Know

As The Big Bang Theory reaches its final episode ever, we can't help but feel a tad nostalgic.

The show has been going strong for 12 years, which is more than I can say for most television series'. But unfortunately, the time has come to say goodbye to Sheldon and the gang once and for all.

But before we do that, let's just take a moment to look back at the highlight reel, and feed ourselves some Big Bang Theory fun facts that we can totally bust out at trivia later!

Mayim Bialik is the only character from the show who has a PhD in real life.

Mayim completed her Neuroscience studies in 2008, and then went on to earn her PhD.

You go, girl!

Mayim Bialik was spoken about on the show before she joined the cast officially.

In season one, Raj says "You know who's apparently very smart, is the girl who played TV's Blossom. She got a PhD in neuroscience or something."

Two seasons later, Mayim joined The Big Bang Theory's squad as Amy.

"Soft Kitty" is an actual song.

Turns out Sheldon's lullaby Soft Kitty is a real song.

Back in the 1930's, Warm Kitty by Edith Newlin was released. It sounds a bit different, but it's clear where Sheldon's version of the song came from.

In the 100th episode, Penny is wearing the same shirt she wore in the very first episode.

That shirt probably carries a lot of sentimental value to her.

Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki are some of the world's most well paid actors.

I personally find this information surprising! But good for them. They've definitely earned it.

In 2013, Johnny Galecki was the second highest paid actor on television.

He brought in a whopping $24 million.

I bet he doesn't have to walk to the store. He probably takes a limousine 'cause it costs more.

Back in 2012, biologists discovered a new species of bee, and named it after Sheldon's catchphrase.

To honor The Big Bang Theory, the biologists decided to name the bees Euglossa Bazinga.

All of the main female characters first appearances, had their first exchange with the person they'd end up dating.

The first male character to speak to them would eventually be the person they end up dating.

In the German version of the show, the person who plays the voice of Sheldon is the same person that usually plays the voice of Leonardo DiCaprio.

His name is Gerrit Schmidt-Foß.

He even played Leo's voice in the German version of Titanic.

At one point a show called "The Theorists" aired, and it was a complete ripoff of "The Big Bang Theory" down to the characters names.

The show starred four scientists named Sheldon, Leo, Hovart, and Raj.

It also starred one main, blonde female lead.

Kaley Cuoco was absent for two episodes in season four because she fell off a horse and broke her leg.

I think that's a pretty solid excuse to call in sick!

All of the characters that play instruments on the show are actually highly skilled musicians in real life as well.

That is some serious commitment.

Mayim Bialik actually plays the harp, Jim Parsons plays the theremin, and Johnny Galecki plays the cello.

Leonard's glasses don't actually have any lenses in them.

Supposedly, due to the height difference between him and Sheldon, every time he would tilt his head upwards it would cause glare on his lenses that would show up on camera.

The reason you've never seen Raj, Bernadette, or Howard's apartment in the same episode is because they are the same apartment.

The same set is used for both spaces!

If you look closely, you can see that it's the exact same layout, just decorated differently.

Well played, Big Bang Theory, well played.

Jim Parsons has never seen "Star Trek".

This one is probably the most shocking because even in real life, Jim Parsons definitely has some of the geeky qualities that he brings to the show.

I never would have guessed that he hasn't ever seen one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time.
