Meghan Markle May Have Revealed The Reason Why She Often Wears Darker Clothes

Who's up for talking about the royals? Great, because we're talking royalty and fashion, which is a god-tier combo.

Today, let's look at relatable queen (okay, literal Duchess) Meghan Markle keeping her wardrobe on the dark side. Why is she always in dark colors? Where can I buy her jackets? We're all going to find out together, guys. Let's go.

Keeping up with the Duchess

The Duchess has kept things quite low-key since the announcement of her pregnancy, especially on the fashion side.

A quick look at her recent dress choices will confirm her affinity for darker clothing.

When she's attending events, Duchess Markle seems to opt for darker colors, which flatter her beautifully.

It also helps her blend in more, perhaps saving her from being caught by the paparazzi.

Looking back at her wardrobe for the last few months, at least 60% of her clothes are dark.

Even before her pregnancy, the Duchess was pretty fond of dark tones.

During her appearance at the 2018 Fashion Awards, Meghan once again donned black to present alongside Rosamund Pike.

They awarded the Designer of the Year Womanswear to designer Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy. She also shocked the world by wearing black nail polish.

I love her so much, guys.

This isn't anything new for Meghan.

Even when she was on Suits, the Duchess attended events in darker, richer colors that tended to flatter her, yet not overwhelm her. In short, she wore the clothes — the clothes didn't wear her.

She continued her ownership of her color choices during her first proper debut as Prince Harry's partner.

As Marie Claire noted, she also stuck to her own classic, distinctive style from her celebrity days.

Yes, queen.

So why all the dark clothing?

What is Meghan trying to communicate with her choices, if anything?

Well, as it turns out, her choice in wardrobe is not only deliberate, but was done during her days on Suits.

In 2015, the Duchess gave an interview to In Style that shed some light on how she integrates her character's feelings into her wardrobe.

Rachel Zane was planned down to a "t."

Romance demands a light tone

For those times when Rachel was falling for Mike, her love interest on Suits, the costume designer and Duchess Markle put her character in light, blush tones to indicate romance and love.

For those times when she was all business, the Duchess' character sported dark tones.

"Season one when she’s really all about business, I wear more charcoal grays and blacks." She told In Style.

Reasoning is everything

One last tidbit we got into how the Duchess thinks is this: "I think our clothes are such a reflection of how we’re feeling."

So, what does it mean if she herself has been sporting a lot of navy, black, and grey lately?

Everything is open to interpretation

Unlike Rachel, it seems the Duchess' personal style is less about how she's feeling and more about what she wants to communicate.

For more elegant or somber occasions, she clearly opts for her favored dark tones.

One thing you'll never spot her in: a pattern. Duchess Markle rarely sports a piece that isn't color-blocked, which helps give her an effortless elegance to any outfit she wears. Distracting patterns are nowhere to be seen.

It isn't all dark, all the time, however.

Even though the Duchess opts out of patterns, she doesn't always shy away from color.

And when she goes for it, she goes big. Check out this bright red coat she wore in Sussex!

For a softer neutral, the Duchess put together an all-cream ensemble that gives off a gentler, more cozy side.

And for good reason, as she was visiting an animal shelter the day she wore this outfit!

Could Meghan be taking a note straight from her Rachel Zane days?

Maybe her clothing choices have been a reflection on her feelings? I know I tend to dress in darker clothes when I'm feeling upset.

It's no secret that Meghan's family has been in and out of the spotlight over the last few months.

So technically, it would make sense if this was the reason why we're seeing Meghan in darker colors lately.

But at the end of the day, I have a hunch that Meghan wears whatever, whenever.

While giving the closing speech at the Invictus Games, the Duchess went for a sleeveless, collared dress in a neutral olive green tone. It looks like a blazer-dress, and I'm obsessed.

As much as I love the theory that Meghan wears colors that reflect her mood,

It's probably got more to do with her killer sense of style, and knowing what flatters her best.

And when I say killer sense of style, I'm not joking.

While she prefers darks, her chosen striking colors tend to be red and blue.

I know, I know. When you're a royal, you definiely get some assistance in what you wear to big events.

But Meghan has always had an eye for style, and something tells me that she has a big say in what she wears.

Can we just talk about Meghan in yellow for a second?

In an unusually bright, canary-yellow gown, the Duchess joined Prince Harry at the Your Commonwealth Youth Challenge reception. As it was mid-summer, the color is more than appropriate.

I'm obsessed.

If Meghan's color choices do in fact reflect her mood, at least she knows how to glam it up.

Before she was a Duchess, she sported this grey peacoat that I absolutely want right now.

What do you think?

Seen here: the Duchess paired her empire-waisted dress with some purple-grey flowers, which gives her a very fairytale-like air. That's my way of saying she looks like a Disney princess. Thanks.

Are her wardobe choices a reflection of her mood, or what events are currently happening in her life?

Or is Meghan just living her best life as a Duchess and playing around with whatever flatters her? Let us know your thoughts!
