Crochet Flip Flop Socks Are Here And So Confusing

I have learned in my life to never get between those who crochet and their crochet hooks. Those folks are passionate about yarn, and they don't care who knows. And there's nothing wrong with that!

But boy howdy do you ever see some odd things done with a simple pair of crochet hooks. Usually it's something awesome, like tiny adorable animals or maybe a sweet pizza blanket.

I'm not so sure about these socks for flip flops, however.

Maybe they're for the beachgoers living it up in Margaritaville who just never want to admit that summer is over.

But where is the demand for crochet flip flop socks coming from? They keep your ankles slightly warmer, but not your toes, and for me, that's kind of the point of socks: Warm toes.

Maybe they're for the folks who just got a fancy pedicure and want to be able to show it off, even in winter?

I can see the appeal for the yoga classes, where you want some grip on your mat but don't want completely frosty feet, and still have the option of just slipping some sandals on when you leave the studio.

There are other varieties of flip flop socks too — with full toe coverage, and a notch cut out to still allow the thong between your digits.

At which point, yes, your toes are warmer, but you're not showing off a pedicure, and you're not gaining much over traditional socks.

I mean, didn't we decide that socks and sandals were a fashion faux pas like 20 years ago?

Or do we just not care about whether fashion pas are faux or not anymore? I don't get these. Maybe someone can explain them to me, because they're not unattractive — I just don't get why they exist.
