The Internet Is Roasting Ellen DeGeneres For Supporting Kevin Hart

Ellen DeGeneres is known for a lot of things.

She's a great humanitarian, is hilarious as ever, and knows how to dance.

She's not generally controversial, but after she stood up for Kevin Hart, fans have a thing or two to say about it.

Here's a quick rundown for those who need the 411:

Kevin Hart was selected to host the 2018 Oscars, but his invitation was quickly revoked when homophobic tweets from 2008 came to light.

He had apologized for the tweets in the past and refused to apologize for a second time just because they resurfaced. As a result, he stepped down from the hosting gig.

Ellen DeGeneres had Kevin on her show, and she went on a pretty lengthy rant about why she supports Kevin.

Kevin explained that he initially stopped by the show to promote his new movie, but ended up staying on for the entire hour.

He called it the most "raw/honest & authentic" interview that he's ever done.

In the interview, Ellen explained that she really wanted Kevin to host The Oscars.

"I called the academy today cause I really want you to host The Oscars," she revealed. She went on to explain that the academy would love to have Kevin back to host.

She encouraged Kevin to be the bigger man and return to host The Oscars.

She also warned him not to listen to the small group of haters online who were not happy with his tweets.

Kevin explained that people dragging out the old tweets from 2008 was simply a "malicious attack" to end him.

He explained that this "attack" was bigger than just The Oscars, and felt that the tweets that resurfaced were meant to end all partnerships, brand relationships, and all investment opportunities that we was involved in.

Ellen reminded Kevin that the "trolls" were going to win if he didn't host The Oscars, and he should stand up against them.

As a result, there were many people online who weren't happy to see Ellen defending Kevin.

Some people said that they were embarrassed for Ellen, and didn't support her defending Kevin.

There's definitely a big divide between those who believe what Kevin once tweeted should be left in the past because people mistakes, versus those who can't forgive him for what he said.

They weren't happy about being called "trolls and haters" just because they were voicing their concerns about his tweets.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community felt that Ellen shouldn't have said anything on the matter, being a gay person herself.

On the flip side, there are plenty of people who think that Kevin should host The Oscars, and were happy to see Ellen come to his defence.
