A mom in Lanarkshire, in the central Lowlands of Scotland, has gotten a lot of flack for painting her daughter in blackface for a Halloween costume.

Scotland mom put blackface on her child for Halloween

Claire Flynn, from Motherwell, put blackface paint on her daughter, Sienna, 3, and had her pose with various brightly-colored sunglasses for Halloween.

Outfit was meant to parody "beach traders"

Flynn captioned her Facebook photo “Happy Halloween from Benidrorms finest......lookie lookie,” according to Evening Times. The New York Post says the outfit was meant reflect the "beach traders" at beach resorts in Spain.

Flynn's brother may have endorsed the costume

The Evening Times found Claire Flynn is sister to gold-medal champion boxer Charlie Flynn. And Charlie Flynn seems to have taken note of the costume and spoke positively of it. "Lookie lookie...Happy Hallowe'en. My big sister has excelled herself with her girl's costume," he says, though he later deleted his post.

"I'm definitely not one"

According to Flynn, friends and family called the costume "brilliant." "I’m not a racist and I’ve not seen anyone calling me a racist and I’m definitely not one," she added. Funny, that's what a lot of racist people say.

Megyn Kelly just went through this

Kelly later apologized internally to staff members (through an email). "I’ve never been a 'PC' kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age, particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year," she said. But it was a tad too late: three days later NBC announced that Megyn Kelly Today would be canceled. A Twitter post from just a couple days ago reveals people still don't get it.

Sure, sure

The simple rule that you should not wear blackface seems to trip people up most Halloweens. Just recently, NBC News host Megyn Kelly went under fire for her comments on Megyn Kelly Today about the ethics of blackface. “What is racist? When I was a kid, that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.” OK Megyn.

Once again, blackface is w-r-o-n-g

Flynn eventually deleted the post, though it's unclear whether she now understands why putting blackface on her child was wrong.

Let's keep creative costumes as non-racist, shall we?

Claire Flynn was slammed for her actions and shot back that people needed to "get a grip." “I’m just a creative person and that’s what Halloween is all about. It’s a kid in a costume wearing facepaint," she went on.

Social media: It's the best

Not everyone agreed that wearing blackface is racist. @kbrochhausen stated on Twitter: "Wearing makeup for Halloween isn’t blackface. It’s a costume. Not racist."
