In an inspirational turn of events, two sanitation workers truly saved the day while driving along their daily pickup route last week.
These two men are reminders that heroes really do exist, and they're ready to do what they can to help those in need, even with only a moment's notice.
As ABC News reported, the sanitation workers named Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine were going along their daily route in New Iberia, Louisiana, when they noticed something unusual.
A silver sedan was parked in the middle of a field and looked pretty out of place. The men immediately sensed that something wasn't right.
The workers decided to block the parked Sedan with their garbage truck, ensuring that the car couldn't leave.
They proceeded to call the police, and when responders arrived, they discovered that the car had been used to kidnap a little girl.
A 10-year-old girl had been abducted from a family member's home in the area and was considered to be in serious danger. An Amber Alert had been issued that evening.
The suspect, 33-year-old Michael Sereal, was arrested by police and the terrified family was finally reunited with their daughter. The community has since agreed that the actions of the sanitation workers truly made a difference on whether the girl made it home or not.
Rescuing the girl hit home for Merrick. Having a daughter of his own, he told ABC News he could imagine the fear and pain her family must have experienced during that uncertain time.
Both men were commended for their heroism and their efforts as essential workers during the pandemic, ultimately reminding audiences that we must look out for each other when we can.
