'Sound Of Music' Star Christopher Plummer Passes Away Age 91

Legendary actor and Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer has passed away at the age of 91, Deadline reports.

Christopher Plummer was best known for his role as Captain John Van Trapp in *The Sound Of Music*.

Plummer was also celebrated for his work in All The Money In The World, Knives Out, Twelve Monkeys, and The Man Who Would Be King, among many other notable and beloved films.

Plummer was the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar.

Plummer took home the Best Supporting Actor award at the age of 88 for his work in the film Beginners.

Plummer also had two Tony Awards with seven nominations, three Drama Desk Awards, the National Arts Club Medal, as well as the Governor General's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Plummer's manager, Lou Pitt, confirmed his passing.

“Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots," he said in a statement.

"Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come."

"He will forever be with us," the statement ended.

Fans have taken to social media to share their tributes to the iconic star.

"Just about everyone alive right now has an iconic Christopher Plummer performance that's contemporary to them," wrote director Ben Mekler.

"He just kept going. What a career. RIP," Mekler shared.

"Christopher Plummer brought warmth, humanity, and complexity to every performance throughout his extensive career. Rest in peace to a master of the craft whose films will live on forever," shared the Netflix Film twitter account.

Deadline confirms that Plummer passed away with his wife of 53 years by his side.
